Another Friday.

What a gift.  Two gorgeous days in a row.  Low humidity, Temperatures that made me want to stay outside all day with the birds and flowers.  Yes a gorgeous day.

I enjoy days like today just because retirement makes enjoying the day so easy. I cleaned up the last big flowerbed of Susan's.with a plant here or there around the yard to still reminding me of their gift and moved to the big blue later  I'm an early bird this year on the Susan Job.  I decided that today would also be seed day.  That means the dried Marigold flowers were ready to tear apart to find the seeds releasing them from their tight band and allowing them to dry completely.  There must be a million altogether.

Seeds must be completely dry or mold will destroy them in storage.                                     This bunch of seeds is filling a few sheets of newspaper on the dining room table.                                                                  A day should finish the drying job.

I moved on to the zinnias which are a little more laborious to harvest.  The seeds must be dark gray in color and unable to bend indicating that they are mature when pulled from the base of the flower.  There are far fewer arrow shaped seeds to harvest on each of the zinnia heads this year.  I'll keep harvesting. The flower should be in the drying process before picking.
Such pretty shapes with a tad of color still hanging on to the seed.

There may be a few calendula seeds to add to the collection in a few days.  They are the strangest seed shape I have ever seen.

Plans are moving along celebrating Creation Care Sunday, October 9th at church.  The hope is that we will have enough seeds to insert in small envelopes to share with those worshiping that Sunday.  Little by little will get this job completed.  The  Creation Care Sunday will be an exciting Sunday of worship. It is also Hamilton Sunday.

While checking the garden, once again I found all three colors of Asters in bloom.  The latest color is pink which joins a very dark purple along with a lighter purple.  Little Miss Pink always leads me to think she won't show up.

All of the ornamental grasses are blooming, a sure sign that summer has given way to fall.  It's time now to just look beautiful with all the growing season past.  The cleome is either looking wonderful or way past its prime.  This is one of the former mentioned.  Those past their prime are residing in big blue.  It's the ruthless season with the decision made to either stay or go. There is no in-between this time of year.

Saturday is another Bread and Bowl morning working with great church friends providing a meal for our community friends.  After providing only carryout meals to folks during Covid, the Community Room is a buzz with folks needing a meal during the 11 to 12 hour of serving.  Carry out options are still available.
