Some things are the same. some things are different.

So the same... Wordle, Breakfast, Crossword, Eric, and more bib making.   I did a little of today's bib work before today. Ten more bibs got to the finish line this afternoon.   So I've gotten a good start on the next hundred.  Only 70 more bibs to go.  The weather was beautiful today so I took a walk around the garden looking for new signs of life.  I didn't find any.  Yes...it's only Feb till the end of the day.  Will tomorrow be a lion or a lamb beginning.  It remains to be determined.   This afternoon after a stop at Aldi's for split peas I put together a yummy crock pot of Split Pea Soup.  I started with boiling the dried peas until soft and then running them through the blender.  In the skillet went onions, garlic, celery, and carrots. with a little butter. When everything was ready they all met in the crockpot with some chicken broth and some diced ham.  Now the different! In the evening it was off to the Lydia Circle at church with my friend Beth.  Our frie

A little of this and that Monday.

A very early morning, very early.  Eric got his ride to Nora.  Crossword was completed.  Wordle completed this afternoon successfully with the last chance for a win.   Now the little... I did a little sewing.  Not much and there was also a little cutting of strips.  A little cutting of backing and a little sewing.    I worked a little on the stole finishing some example ideas.  Then I talked a little to Darren about the process.  Texting pictures is certainly not the same as seeing the real thing.  Colors do not transfer well.  The next thing I want to do is show Darren the colors.  I sent him two ideas and the burlap example I like the most he liked the least.  It's his stole so I'm just fine with following his lead.  I could guess that his days with burlap on the farm was a factor. Maybe not.  I think we'll do a lot of tiny crosses and there will be three nails a tad bigger.  I did two in this picture to see what would come out of my head.  The purple looks not quite rig

Sunday

A simple morning of almost nothing but there were three bib fronts put together.  No backs because I just don't have much that goes with yellow flowers.  Anything pink or purple I can do. So they are off to themselves until I get my head thinking again about them.   Mercy! Oh, Kyrie! Have mercy! Oh, Christe! Mercy! Eleison.                                                              Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, (Lord, have mercy, Christ have mercy.)                                                 Have mercy on our souls! Have mercy on creation! Mercy! Great church morning with Mercy on the table in so many ways.  The choir sang the Kyrie from the Blue Grass Mass by C. Barnett.  as an anthem this morning. The choir sang the whole mass a few years ago. Our prayer response will be another Kyrie during Lent. Mercy,  We saw lots of friends with a few more people finding their way back to the sanctuary.  I think North has been a bit on the slow side with returning folks lagging beh

Woo...end of the week

That means Saturday.   I slept till almost 6.  Could this be a new beginning?  Probably not. I hit the sewing machine running and added two more to the stash.  Cute fabric with fishing worms, bugs, and bees.  I hope there's a mother with a sense of humor?  Breakfast and off to Saturday Soup Kitchen although we never make soup.  Maybe a new name is needed, you think?  It was a very busy morning with more preparation than usual. And we were short three people.  So NO sit-down time this Saturday.  The new take-home option from Second Helpings was not up to our liking but we give what we get.   Heidi was back from a Colorado skiing trip so we did some Lenten talk catching her up on with the what's going on thing at North Church in the coming weeks.  I added some ideas about a May church Sunday with Ukraine in mind.  The afternoon was nap time as usual and then mostly getting bib parts ready to start sewing again next week.  There are stacks of lined fabric to get all the strip qui

Friday.

Yes...today is Friday.  I'm on the right day this time.  Crossword  EASY.  Wordle... I couldn't figure it out so I put it on the back burner and low and behold, the afternoon brought the right word.  Of course it was on the fifth try, Kat, my daughter-in-law is a wiz at Wordle.  Beats me every day without fail.   Last night what I thought would happen did.  For some reason, the wire on my hearing aid broke. This morning I was at I U North at 8   I left it for repair and as soon as I got home it was ready for pickup.  Woo...fast repair people.     The sweat shop opened at 9 and my goal for the day was 10 bibs.  At 8:30 pm I made the goal.  Now I only worked some of day at the sewing machine.  I took a lot of breaks.                   A new group of 10.  Five boy bibs and five girl bibs. The count is off if pink is not an issue.     I took some time off in the afternoon to retrieve my hearing aid and took a side trip to Hobby Lobby.  That's not my favorite place by a long sh

Big goof.  The first title for today's entry was Friday.  It's still to come I think! The weeks seem to go faster and faster.  How does that work?  Days are flying.  This morning there was another crossword success.  Wordle took the rest of the day.  Ugh. The morning was filled with buttons and buttonholes.  I'm always surprised by how easy the sewing machine makes this all happen and I'm also surprised by how long it takes to do 15 bibs.  Without the machine, I'd be using the whole day or more.  It's a get-er-done thing so I can move on to FABRIC! 15 more bibs finished. 15 more babies with a bib.                                    Button button who has the button.  That's a very old game we played.  Later in the morning, my back told me to take a break.  I may have learned something a couple of days ago and with any luck, I'll remember what I learned.  Coping with back temper tantrums is not my thing.  The other event of the morning was hacking in to t

First...I'm happy to report that my back is behaving today.  No tantrums.  Simply said it's just being an old back today.  Yesterday's comment about Goodwill was all about doing something different rather than sitting at the sewing machine.  I thought it would help but little did I know that sitting while driving must be the same as sitting at the sewing machine.  But today was a much better back day.  It's tired but it doesn't hurt.  Thank you, Jesus. This morning's wordle didn't go so well.  There were too many rhyming words.  I stuck to the crossword until I GOT it.  And then it was, yup, sewing time.  I added 10 bibs to yesterday's 5 and all have been through all the sewing steps and are ready for buttons and button holes.  That comes tomorrow.  My major purchase yesterday of 3.99 plus tax is working well.                                                    A    good use for my gourd bowls made a few years ago.   I spent time today doing a little org

Tuesday.

This morning with all the usual things.  Up at 5:30.  Breakfast and then Eric and the ride to the bus stop.  He's really itching to get back on the bike.  The best part of the morning is saying hello to the firstborn.  When I got home I finished the front of all 5 bibs                               The next five.  Same old tune.  These remain button and buttonholeless. .   I had some places to go and I invited Doug to drive me.  Yahoo.   First it was to Kathy's house to deliver the finished bibs for yet to be born Riley.  Doug hopped out of the car which meant we were staying for a while.  We had a great at least 15 minute conversation with both Kathy and her Eric. We have known them for at least 50 years.  Great choir friends.  Years and years ago Doug helped Eric build their house and I took care of little girl Kara every day while Kathy also worked on the house.  We're really old friends in more ways than one.                 More little friends spending the day in the

The morning out of bedtime was early again.  Wordle and Crossword was successful in due time.  My cute little guy seems to be pretty happy with his succulent near by.  Palm Passion  Sunday will soon be here.  Seven different scripture readings on Palm Sunday are identified as part of the last week of Jesus' life.  The second reading is about Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers.  I have not been happy with that visual so this morning I made money changer bags.  5 different one with interesting fabrics that I thought yesterday I didn't need and pitched in the recycle bag.  So I dug them out and now have interesting money-changer bags.  Surprise!  What fabric I thought I didn't need I needed about 12 hr. after that got pitched.  One can never be sure.                                                     Once again fabric was nearby for money bags. I was off to church a bit early and that was a good thing.  Julie appeared and it proved to be a busy, busy morning.

Sunday.

Easy morning and then off to church which was also easy!  Few responsibilities although I got a lot of information about sermons during Lent and more Holy Week responsibilities to think about.  I'm lovin' it.  New things to think about sturring the brain into a new place.  Eric R worked with me after church with ladder things and tomorrow Julie and I will finish what visuals need to happen for the coming months until Palm Sunday.  My head is spinning with Holy Week activities.  In May plans are bubbling up for a Ukrainian Sunday with music and visuals.  I can see lots of sunflowers perhaps in wreaths, the national flower of Ukraine.  Should be exciting.                                      The altar flowers were stunning honoring the life of Karen Kay Leonard.   This afternoon was one of those sleepy no pressure Sunday's.  It was a little of this and that.  Wonderful weather which just pulled me right out of the house to check on things.   I found little groups of these be

Quiet Saturday.

Image
An early morning wake-up with a quiet start to another Saturday.  It was a crossword that was easy with the exception of one corner I just could make work.  Monday's paper will give me the clue. Wordle...I forgot to do so it's an evening before bed try.   Friday I did a lot of fabric cutting with the last bunch of flannel.  And today, Saturday I sewed almost all of it into burp clothes.  Fun, fun.  Such pretty colors.                    There is one small stack left to sew tomorrow.                                                                                                 I need to move on to cleaning the house.  Uck.  Today I concluded that the sewing machine really sounded like a little choo-choo train.  It was just chugging along singing it's the same little tune. I don't think it was the Chattanooga Choo Choo but maybe it's the I think I can train.  On our way to Atlanta, we go through Chattanooga of course.  There is no other road but through Chattanooga

Goal Day.Friday.

Image
Today I met my goal of 100 baby bibs for the Goodwill program mentoring mothers of newborns and babies up to 2 years old.  Number 100 came off the line.  I pray that somehow this will make at least a small difference in the lives of the families receiving care in this program.                                                                            98, 99 and 100  BINGO   Yesterday you saw some flannel fabric I discovered stored among regular cotton that I received from friends. Flannel is what all the burp cloths are made of awaiting more work to be completed by the Lydia Circle at church. Jenny who is part of the Goodwill baby program is speaking to the Lydia group on the 28th. The number 100 is glued to burp cloths also.  So off to you know where for their sale weekend wanting plain flannel to match what I already had.  It just didn't quite work out that way.  Something always happens at JoAnn's.  So here's the additional stuff.  Yup...you guessed correctly. Of course

Thursday.

Today was gray and rainy.  Outside was not conducive to walks in the garden or anything else.                   A regular visitor.  An old picture but probably the same bird. The family is quite large.   The early morning produced another bib.  Then breakfast...Eric to Nora and Andrew to school.  Then things slowed down.  Kat usually does the school drive but she needed help this morning.  I'm happy to do that.  This morning I had Andrew all to myself on the 12-minute drive.  That's fun.  The sewing machine stayed busy for most of the day although there were breaks along the way.  That's a good thing.  I found rubber ducky fabric and those 4 bibs are so cute.  Makes me smile when I think of them.  Four babies first words might be quack, quack.  Supper tonight was warmed-over soup and cornbread.  Easy does it when I'm sewing.  We've done a lot of easy does it's lately.   The number of bibs continues to move upward and onward.  I'm in the nineties now aiming

Gratitude Wednesday.

Image
That's right...Gratitude for many things today.   It was another wonderful day in the sewing room.  First, it's gratitude for Cyndi's generosity.  She made beautiful cloth bags for her business.  Her basement rooms were full of fabric.  I was in awe of the variety of patterns.  When she and her husband moved to N. Carolina to be nearer to their children I was the recipient of her generosity.  Thank you Cyndia.  She worked with me at Cherry Tree El. School.                                                          Wild and crazy.  Some of Cyndi's fish fabric.   This week, I have had what musicians call worms crawling through our heads.  Not real worms for sure but songs that are hard to purge. They just play all the time.   The latest worm is Make Me A Servant sung as a response after prayer time each Sunday.  It mentions lifting those who are weak.  My bib-making work reminds me of mothers who are struggling with baby responsibilities. I'll keep on keeping on with t
