Wednesday

Our Tuesday trip was very ordinary one with the usual horrendous traffic snarls at Nashville and Chattanooga. The weather was beautiful. and the  Wednesday started at Dalton, Georgia at 6 am.  Off to Atlanta where memories of confirmation trips filled my mind and then on to Conyers.  We had an exciting drive to some places never seen before after leaving Atlanta.  It's still happening after more than 15 years of coming to Georgia.  Getting on to Route 20 out of Atlanta is a doozy and that is also confirmed by Dee who lives here . It now can be called a three-year miss of being in the wrong lane at the wrong time adding this time morning rush hour and the sun in our faces.  But I still find it very amusing.  Laughing at our goofs is the only way to live, particularly if our GPS friend gets us back on the right track.

We arrived at the monastery around 9:30 and were greeted by Doug's brother Rick.  Lots of talk catching up with all that needed to be caught up.  And there is always a lot after a year of not being with each other.  The food that came from Carmel found its home in the kitchen.  True to form the frozen things stayed frozen.  The turkey got its usual thaw in water with an overnight stay in the refrigerator.

A wonderfully sunny day for shopping at a store filled with gracious southerners makes the experience one that can be most memorable.  I always look forward to this hospitality even on perhaps their most busy day of the year.

Dee dropped in and soon after his arrival the Michigan family drove in. .  The 4-day party was off and running.  The grandsons had found the chocolate chip cookies.  After all the cars were unloaded and a little time needed to get settled, we were off to the grocery store for the annual assault of three carts and three lists for three groups to gather all that we needed for the week.  We give brother Rick a huge thank you for being at the end of the checkout line with his card.  We are most grateful for his contribution.

Granny Smith Apples from the Michigan family do the honors.  Yum, Yum.

Back home again the food was sorted and packed away and the Carmel Chili was the meal of the afternoon.  Of course, the next important item for the gang was having apple pie available at any hour of any day. The first two appeared and were well received one totally disappearing by 6 PM of course with ice cream added.  The evening meal for some didn't exist unless one might call dishes of ice cream some folks adding ice cream a three-course meal.

Perhaps the best meal of the day was apple pie and ice cream                                                                  The second round for this gentleman was ice cream with chocolate sauce,                                                       Tomorrow the lima beans will be added to the diet. A family must.

The proverbial puzzle got it's start and three games of Skip-Bo finished off the evening entertainment for the adults while the boys watched movies.

Lots of laughing until our sides hurt trying to follow the NO TABLE TALK rule while playing Skip Bo.  That was an impossible thing to do.

More TV , more puzzling and snacking and it was time to call it a day.
