Monday

Today was another day with hours spent at church.  The children rehearsed Sunday after the second service for the five o'clock service on Christmas Eve and the sanctuary needed to be reset for the coming Sunday morning worship time.  I met Heidi at 10 and we left the church at 1:30.  Another good chunk of the day was spent getting ready for the weekend.

We tried many things and some worked and some didn't and we kept trying until we were satisfied with everything.  I say there is always a way.  We just need to be patient with ourselves in finding it. The plan needed to eliminate as many things we could that would cause extra work for us on Christmas Eve services.  Doing that for three services that are vastly different was the puzzle to solve.  Some things we could fix, some things we couldn't fix.

This will be in place for the 11:00 am service as well as the family worship service at 5 pm. This is the northern part of the chancel area.  The donkey will be moved with stronger muscles to the back of the palm plants.  The youth will relate the Bethlehem story on this side of the chancel area.

The southern end of the chancel area is where people will hear a more modern-day Christmas story.  The jr and sr. high school students will sing here.  Mary will be in place for the Sunday 11 am service but removed for the evening services.  At the 7 and 11 service, the platforms will be removed.  The 7 pm service is a communion service and the 11:00 features lessons and carols.

We'll add more pink poinsettia to the altar area for Sunday morning.  Mary will have more emphasis for the fourth Sunday by way of the lectionaries directive. Sunday evening the flowers will be white.

So today we tried different ways to place visuals.  I think we have made a difference, keeping things fresh.  Those words come to me often as I heard them years ago from mentor Doris Douglas a teacher and friend steeped in the world of liturgical visuals.

We were ready to leave the church as a snowstorm blew through.  What a feast for my eyes while taking pictures in the church courtyard.

Now sitting on my dining room table.                                                                                                      Doug thought I was in the florist business.                                                                          Sometime this week I'll be heading to church with them, filling the altar area.

After leaving church once again I went directly to Lowes and picked up sale-priced Poinsettia.

So there was supper and time to sit watching another football game. There was good ball this weekend. Most of the teams I wanted to win did win.  Yeah for the Browns, Buffalo, Colts and more!  Boo cod Seattle tonight!
