Saturday

It's the last Saturday of the month that means it's another Saturday to do Bread and Bowl at church.  That's the name at its beginning and we did do a peanut butter sandwich and a bowl of soup.  Not anymore!

A volunteer lettuce plant.  I wish there were more.  It has worked hard to be alive, so I'll enjoy it this way.

So, we were off on the way soon after 8.  And there was some quiet time getting things ready for the morning of work.  Conversations during this early prep time mix me up so I'm delighted to have about 20 or more minutes of quiet to get this mission work on its way to a successful conclusion.  The contribution from Second Helping was wonderful chicken and mashed potatoes.  It was yummy and well appreciated. Three pans that serve 18 each were put in the oven.  We added our usual vegetables and deserts and a piece of bread and coffee for coffee drinkers.  We found freshly packaged fruit in the refrigerator and a few other things were added to the takeout bags.  All the food was gone in 40minutes with all who came able to have a meal.  It was a good morning.  Two of our workers were not with us but the five workers familiar with the needs of the morning moved everything along at a pace that allowed us time to sit and chat for a bit.  It's a great rest time before the doors open at 11 am.  Then there is the clean up as the morning ends.

My friend Heidi.  Best dishwasher ever.  Her husband James is a super worker as well.

The morning is almost over.  The clean pans are ready to go back to Second Helpings.  The knives and spoons are in the drawers again ready for the next meal.  This space that we call a one butt kitchen is the most use of any kitchen in the church came through again.  This area serves 3 meals with carry out 3 days a week.  Other churches in the area fill that need on other days of the week.

Doug picked me up and we were once again heading home through a world decorated with beautifully colorful trees.  I ate lunch and took a good nap.

The afternoon sun is "electrifying" this tree.  It was a little switch of a tree when we moved to this house.  Now I'm wondering if it could fall on the house in a storm.  There is more than half not in the picture.

And, much to my surprise even after a morning on my feet, I felt like a walk around the block.  We left the house but turned around needing more to keep us warm.  The wind was a bit brisk.  Our walk included our little 2 year old neighbor James and his dad.  What fun.

Cleome.  Here but not for long.  It spreads millions of seeds so they will appear next spring.

Then there was another nap.  I will say it was that brisk air that cleared all the fog away letting room for sleep.

The closer these get to frost time, the better they look.

I made some phone calls asking for help getting All Saints Sunday in place.  We'll be working at church Tuesday, preparing the sand bowls and candles for those wanting to remember a loved one now with the Saints.  It's one of my favorite Sundays at church and the same for many other parishioners.  Once again Kat Russell came through ordering pillar candles for the church.  I tell her about the need, and she looks online and orders.  How easy is that!  It's been at least 20 years since we have ordered pillar candles.

The rest of the day included football.  I did need to talk to Siri about some outcomes.  It's those darn sleeps.  I U has a wonderful team this year.  They won again and are at the top of the big ten.  Woo...that's surprises a whole lot of us.

Another Lantana Picture.

While visiting Kenya years ago, our group visited the site where the movie, Out of Africa was filmed.  There were Lantana hedges at least 7 ft. high.  I wonder what they looked like in full bloom.  So, every year there must be Lantana in the garden.
