Monday
Yes, Dee...I wish I could train the deer. So, today was fern day among a host of other things. More later. The morning started as it usually does with fixing breakfast. There really is not much to it. I watched the scene from the kitchen window and there it was again. Another baby squirrel messing around and the trap snapped shut with no door out. I'm thinking about the NBA and who is going to win. The score now is 4 for the squirrels and 5 for the chips. Almost tied. I've never caught so many squirrels in one year. What will the final score be. It was another trip to the woods even before Doug's feet hit the floor.
The morning cup with French Vanilla became the noon cup finished once again in the afternoon. Starting the day with the birds is such a treat. Could I say the same about the squirrels and chipmunks? I don't have an answer. It was shovel/fern day with another look at the back yard. There could be a few removed but my trip took me to the north side of the house. Woo. There was a whole lot of digging there. I uncovered a lot of beautiful Hosta. Took some pictures and later decided that more could leave town on another day.
The north side of the house. My goodness, look at those Hosta plants. More ferns need to go.Then it was to the front of the house. Many more ferns were removed. I moved a plant and dug out some other stuff. The edging on the bed needed to happen. The deer were here, I suspect more than once.
A plant moved to the front of the bed and there is space between the yard and bed. Yahoo. I pulled a lot of Creeping Charlie. He never gives up.The proof is in the wheel barrel. Not in the pudding this time. Ferns smush easily.
The front of the house is finished but the north side will wait for its edging and more fern removal another day. You would think that with working in the garden every day I would be finished. Nope, By noon I called it quits for a while with little digging the rest of the day.
Here are some things that happened in the afternoon.
This pot was moved from shade to sun with the hope we will see cannas popping through maybe in June. They are slow but beautiful. The branch with a woodpecker hole is a reminder of our friend who passed a couple of weeks ago named Maple Tree.
Another place in the garden is this ornamental bird house that usually becomes someone's home. Another place to raise a family not taken yet. Wren's are busy. Sparrows have moved into their house. A little rearranging made this happen. Since boys rule the Russell family I said I needed a girl somewhere.I mentioned some lab blood work needing to be done on the week there are no cancer medications taken. Well, I was a week off but was told the order was put in at IUNorth a couple of weeks ago. So off I went to get that done. NO ORDER. Thank goodness the hospital is very close and I called Julie, my go to lady who now has the order in for tomorrow morning. We off to see the blood wizard of oz tomorrow morning! I'm praying for good results.
The weather has been outstanding today. Low humidity in the low 70's. Supper was on the patio complements of neighbors Bill and Kathy. There was more time after that to finish planting zinnia plants. Seed planting needs to happen. Last night's planting looks great. So we're moving on to more gardening. It quiets the mind. Another wonderful day of work. I call it a gift.
No ball until Wednesday and then the Pacers start all over again with the Nicks. Yikes. Fingers crossed. This should really be an interesting series. (I HOPE)
