Saturday
The big news is that there is no big news. Just a little of this and that to say what the day brought. Since it is the second Saturday of the month you all know it is soup kitchen day/bread and bowl day. It's a bit crazy how those two names were used when we did all that stuff. The names have stuck but the food is very different now a day.
I arrived at church at 8:30 again working on getting things together so that those arriving at 9 could immediately start to prepare what needed to be prepared. Deserts to be packaged for take out, two pieces of bread slipped into a bag. Deserts to be prepared for those eating in. Plates to be counted, tables to be washed and more things. It reminds me so much of setting up centers when I was in the classroom. It almost wears me out thinking about everything that needs to be completed before the guests arrive. We had great help, meaning that the number of preparers were six and because everyone knows what needs to be done, work is completed at a fast marathon pace with today all in place a little after 10. Woo. Then the conversation centered around camels, cows, books and some other interesting subjects. That's the best time of the morning also including a cup of coffee.
Speaking of Marathons, today there was one on the streets of Indy so picking the route to get to church saw two workers walking to church from their home.
We were busy at eleven when the doors were open but our pans of food lasted until the last person was fed. Thinking about the feeding of the 5000...
Then a very tired body with my name attached came home to take over the chair for the afternoon knitting up a flurry of stitches while watching football. Our dear I U team that has suffered defeat over the years is having a blue ribbon of a year with no losses so far. Today was no exception but it almost happened. Thank goodness for the last less than one minute of playing time when another touchdown pulled them over the goal line once again winning! What a thriller playing Penn State at PS. Now Purdue didn't fare so well today. Texts were flying between two friends, Carol and Nancy!
So, the afternoon in the chair was a good place to be. I will admit I needed that chair more than I usually do. Yesterday while pulling up the last of the zinnias to harvest seeds, I really had a bad fall that stunned me more than falls usually do. It took me till this afternoon to get my feet under me in a way I felt entirely safe. I just wish my feet would stay connected to my head helping with balance. The Y gives me some help but it's something I should be working on 36 hours a day. Or maybe even 48 hours a day. I'm happy to say all the zinnias have disappeared and the garden need little help from me at this point. Just a tad!
So the evening is continuing with more football and more chair time. That's just about the right amount of entertainment for this lady.
