Saturday

Today was another soup kitchen day for me.  I was a little late leaving home but we managed to get everything completed once again before the doors opened at 11.00.  We had a great crew with everyone present to provide food again to our visitors.  No absences.  No tardies.  Just super good workers.  Such good workers that I left a little after 11 just after the doors were open.  I need to do that more often.

Such a wonderful group of friends.

Sarah Ellen and I called our church buddy Linda of long ago who now lives in St. Paul, Minn.  just to chat and assure her that she has been with us though these days of turmoil.  Since her next birthday brings her to 90 she decided not to do the Friday outside gathering.  But her daughter sure did.  It was great to visit with her.

On the way home I joined the crew of grocery shoppers at Aldi's getting last minute things before what appears to be a big snowstorm on the way.  Who knows how big until it's over.  It's been bitterly cold and the snow falls could be anywhere between 5 and 12 inches.  I've heard it all. I would think it would depend on how fast the storm blows through.  The report is that it will be over Monday morning at 7.  At 4:30 this afternoon it started but it needs to get a bigger heft if it develops into a 12 incher.  So, the heat is on.  The hope is there will be no frozen pipes as Mi. Jared is experiencing.  The refrigerator and cupboards have enough food for a small army.  And the word received is that church is canceled for tomorrow.  I would think the parking lot will be more than full of snow by then.  I would say HONKER DOWN for a while might be a good word.

The afternoon was pretty quiet.  No naps needed because of the short work morning, and the knitting just continued.  The birds got a good watching with the Starlings few in number and the two who did appear were frustrated.  Poor things!  All kinds of food can be found everywhere just for the looking.  Just not at my peanut feeder.

I thought of stopping at the Y when passing on the way home.  I been there 4 days out of the last 7 this past week doing a mile plus. I quickly called enough for the week.  There might be some Y closed snow days if the 12 inches show up.  Another choice will be the PT stuff I can do right here at home.  I've got to keep my teachers happy rewarding them with a good "show" on Tuesday.

I'm happy to say that my drippy eyes are a little better.  Strange how taking care of them will fix some issues.  This body maintenance is worse than taking care of a car these days. Frozen pipes would be worse.

So, it looks like Honker will be taking over for a few days.  Carmel has a wonderful snow removal process.  The hope is it continues for the next few days.  The challenge may be getting to the street.  Our lawn guys in the summer become our snow guys in the winter.  And if it were the right kind of packing snow, there could be a snowman or two.  I'm not looking for that to happen as it did last year.  One is never to old to build a snowman.  That's my philosophy I live with.  When I was teaching second grade, at recess we constructed many, many snowmen on the playground with perfect snow.  The next group on the playground were the third graders.  They killed every one.  We didn't win that one.  It was an unfair fight.
