Saturday

Another beautiful morning and afternoon.  I expect the same for a beautiful evening.

The morning started with more knitting on the second ICE protest hat.  It added up to a slim inch.  That needs to continue for at least 4 more inches.  So slow, but that is what it takes.  I want 5 inches at least this time for the bottom of the hat.

At mid-morning I did a patio garden walk and I just stayed outside after that walk.  More to rake and it was time to move plants.  A perfect day with moist ground making digging easy and cooperative plants.  I chopped some ornamental grass that came as a gift from Rosie, years ago into smaller chunks and called Ginna over.  She took one and thought she would do a chopping job on it.  Later she came for some other plants.  It was a good morning for her as well.

Lunch came a long a bit late with chair time to recuperate.  Then it was cleaning up the asparagus bed time.  We'll soon see that appear.  That's a real taste of spring.

The bed is clean and ready for asparagus to appear.  It pops up where ever it wants to.         The surprise Lillie's are showing their spring dress.  That all goes away and in July we'll see flowers.

In that same bed I found horseradish tops turning green.  It must be spring for sure.

These leaves grow to be about three foot tall by summer's end.  Tiny leaves make sweet horseradish.

It's time for horseradish making.  That's another taste of spring my mother always prepared for us.  She added dandelion greens. The first greens of the year. Uck!But not so bad with hardboiled eggs and bacon with a sweet vinegar dressing.  A cup of ground horseradish in vinegar is in the refrigerator ready for some great memories.

One could be buttered potatoes with H.  My dad always slathered his roast beef with H.  Our heads would feel like exploding and we would go right back again with more H.

So the day was filled with memories.

I uncovered the hens and chicks.  They are beautiful after being protected all winter with chicken wire.

So the chicken wire protection continues with the leaves now in the B Blues. The sun can reach the H and C now.

Not a hint of animal damage this spring.  Well, at least so far.

Two B Blues now are packed with stuff for the BB trucks.  I think there may even be something for the third BB. Where did all this stuff come from.  Some leaves I can identify.  Other's NOT.  I would say the wind had something to do with the BB contents.  It certainly brought down a bunch of sticks in the yard.

The in between times entertainment were the Michigan games.  Woo.  Front and center for sure. Victory to both teams. There is a Duke game and an Illinois game coming on.  Knitting continues giving the body a good rest. I'm appreciating the chair time.

The jug zinnias are enjoying time on the patio today.  I should be thinking more jugs but there still is a lot of time before the ground is warm enough to sustain growth.  A couple of snapdragon plants wintered through.  How interesting.  Others did not. Surprises are coming every day. By evening the knitting was measured at 2 inches.  It's a creeping job at best.

Doug finished unloading garden trash into the second big blue.  It was stuffed to the max.  I was grateful beyond measure.  There was time spent on the patio enjoying the late afternoon sun looing across the green grass and flowerbed were the unexpected will soon be with us.  One today was finding a Blue Bell far across the yard away from where Blue Bells were first planted.
