Sunday
And as usual, we were off to church again at 10. Earlier, I walked the garden checking on the plants I was too lazy or tired to water yesterday. The ground had a lot of moisture evident when planting. They seemed to be doing great. So early to church allowed us to hear the choir rehearse. They did a wonderful piece that brought tears. Some things do that knowing how fragile life is.
I grabbed one of the parishioners who helped me make some changes to the front of the church. This was one Sunday without altar flowers. We filled in with better banner placement. I think all was an upgrade after the first service.
The morning service celebrated Earth Day. A new Eagle Scout was recognized having planned and implemented a butterfly garden in the children's former play area. The service was excellently planned with everything themed to the gift of the earth. Hymns, choir selection and a whole lot of liturgy was selected with care. The sermon also was earth related. A wonderful service once again. It's such a reminder of thematic teaching that I loved so much while in the classroom.
Home with lunch and a sit down for a while that resulted in a good sleep sort of skipped during the night.
The sparrows have taken over the Blue Bird feeder. I improvised a new feeder on top of their nesting box. I think when the eggs hatch the adult parents will be busy. Hopefully with the grocery store over head the food will be available quickly. Right now we rarely see the parents who seem to be in the sitting stage.
The bungie cord keeps the door tight. No thieves dare rob. That has happened before.I did a walk around making the decision to do a little herb garden planting work
No calories to count when using Stevia. A super sweetner.Slow Bolting Cilantro so they advertise. I usually have so many self seeding cilantro but not this year. I had to buy one plant at Rosie's. Tomorrow there will be energy to stand tall.
I moved a lot of lemon thyme making room for a Bronze Fennel plant in the middle of the thyme. Something new. They say they are good companion plants. A green Fennel awaits a place.
We found the big rock when installing the sewer system years ago. Some things just aren't coming up as they usually do. I planted more parsley seed. I cleared a place for peppers but they along with tomatoes need to wait a little longer. They like heat all the time. I'm thinking butterflies when planting Fennel. Sweetener for tea when using Stevia among a few other things when thinking other herbs. Parsley is good straight from the garden on anything.
So, the herb part of the garden is coming right along looking pretty sweet. It's good to think gardening might not take much of my life soon although I've enjoyed every minute. The next two weeks have absolutely nothing that is a must or even a maybe on the calendar. Beautiful two weeks I would say that stretches into the third week.
What else is on the list? The Monarch garden. The common milkweed is up and in good supply. The butterfly weed is coming along. One swamp butterfly bush needs purchasing. Then it's zinnia time. Some State Fairs will be purchased and other small ones will grow in the jugs for transplanting. More direct seed planting will happen. Life is getting exciting with expectations.
At some point the dahlia bed will be finished.
I'm a lucky lady busy or not busy. Something that has been burned into my mind.
