Wednesday
This morning I woke up with sore hips. Over use reminded me that something different needed to happen today. And it did. I spent time thinking and came up eventually with a plan. But first there was the walk around with wet feet as usual. It became clear that there must have been a good rain again with all kinds of leaves evident in the ditch running past the house.
Yogurt lovers. Not really but support comes from many places for the Butterfly Weed. There was a little TV and a whole lot of thinking about Dahlias and what I didn't know about their care. I planned a trip to the library for information. That happened. It would seem the library had a total of three Dahlia books and I brought all three home. But the total number of library gardening books now at the chair are eleven. More to learn about many gardening things. If the book has beautiful pictures it comes home with me. Easy choosing to say the least.
Thinking brought a bit of reality about the back 40 so to speak.
I have one garden I call the butterfly bed with a cucumber cage, tomatoes and a whole lot of milkweed. There will be a lot of zinnias one of these months!
One bed is full of herbs but one may find a few peppers added.
There is a long bed holding all sun plants like day lilies and Black Eyed Susans, Mexican Sun Flowers.
Another place is filled with succulents and a few other things.
There are two areas where shade plants like Heuchera. Hosta and ferns and a few S. Seals.
And one area where most things are just called perennials
New this year, one will be filled with Dahlias. I'll need to move a few things elsewhere.
On the way to another place, tomorrow, tomorrow I'll love you tomorrow. For a couple of years I've thought long and hard about a cottage garden. So I'm going to give it a try. Now that's where the afternoon changed a bit. When the large maple tree went down the area moved from shade to sun. That was a good start. More plants moved out just because I was tired of seeing them, such as many, many Solomon Seal. Boring! This was the bed where Jenny was covering up a lot of things that I found and moved a few days ago. By afternoon my hips no longer hurt so the shovel came out.
Jenny had this little gem covered up. It's name is spilt milk. The white part certainly could be milk.Kathleen C was called as I remembered she has been wanting Lenten Roses for some time. And two HUGE plants left the ground making room for the coming transplants. When the two L Roses are cut up she should have close to 6 nice bunches. And if she wants more, she can have them. I think once one has L Roses, they always will have them no matter what. Kathleen will come tomorrow morning for her L Roses. A couple of ferns have hitched a ride.
Work for Kathleen tomorrow.I moved out more C Jenny but stopped before doing any more damage to my body. I'll need to do more book reading and thinking. I'll bring you along with pictures when there is something to look at other than dirt.
Sensitive fern. A shade lover and a gift from the church swap Sunday.Today was lawn mowing Wednesday. The mother of our lawn mower recently was found to have colon cancer. We had a good conversation about cancer and it's predictability and unpredictability. I hope it was helpful.
Another top of the line salad with all the lettuce coming from the garden for supper. Yummy stuff. Doug did the uber and I stayed back to do the blog. The shovel job this afternoon was my excuse for wimping out. I'm tired. No denial. Looking for more basketball tonight. How those bodies keep going impresses me every time I see them. It's time to sit another spell.
