Friday
Almost the end of the week and I didn't do much today. My hips could not have been happier. Just a few things but not much gardening if you might call covering a few things against the cold. Yes, it was cold all day. Mich. kids are having a frost tonight. No so much for us but it will be cool to cold for sure.
St. Francis has a job to do tonight. I hope he stays awake.I was out and about twice looking at plants. Cool Creek Park north of Carmel continues to have native plants for sale, at comparatively good prices so to speak. Of course I went to look and then came home with a plant called a Royal Catchfly. It's flower looks similar to a Cardinal Plant's red flower that humming birds might like.. So we'll see what this one does. There was a Spice Bush there, one of my favorites we had at home. I left it there. Bummer.
Royal Catchfly Silene regiaI did a tent stop, meaning a big tent in a parking lot that sells annuals every spring on the far north side.. Yes. It was full and overflowing with flowers but I'll leave them for a warmer day. It's Zinnia heaven. Kathy O buys a bunch. My bunch is a bit less.
Then on to Rosie's for the Swamp Milkweed. The plant truck just pulled in and I choose to come back a bit later. But while there I met an old friend Tom Woo coming from the southern part of Indianapolis to shop. He's visited Rosie more than once knowing her well. He couldn't say enough good things about this plant heaven. That should tell you readers how Tom feels about Rosie. Later in the afternoon on another trip I got my Swamp Milkweed. Rosie is no more than 1 1/2 mile from our house.
Swamp Milkweed. One of the last outdoor things that happened was a peek into the gallon jug hot houses. And low and behold...there were more seeds germinating. The straw flowers showed good signs of growth, despite the cool to cold temps. There is hope. I had almost given up again. That was a bad idea.
The garden contribution to supper was asparagus. I think it's on it's way out again. The spears are smaller now. That's a sign.
Basketball again tonight. I love that kind of entertainment. During the Cavs game Nancy and I texted. Last night's first game was one lopsided event. Not fun to watch. I went to bed during the second game. We'll see what's coming next.
So, it was a good day. A little different but quite okay. Next big plant event...the North plant swap.
