Saturday
Well, the night was short. I thought it was six am so I got up and got ready for the day discovering that I probably got up at 4 or so. What a bummer. I just got my usual breakfast and spent time with my garden books. Some days are like that even in Australia so says Alexander.
Problem child. Peony's from our Mr. Monday's bush planted more than 50 years ago.I collected everything I needed and was off to church a little after 8 with flowers for the altar. That took a while since one arrangement was pretty easy and the other one didn't want to do what I thought it should. Sometimes things similar to that happen even in Australia so says Alexander.
Better behaved but still a little squirrely. The Iris was a swap plant from years ago.We had a great rain storm on the way home from church. Lightening and the works. It's been a while since I was the driver in such a storm. I decided Aldi's could wait till later. And by the time I drove in the garage, the rain was over. Carmel escaped the down pour but the ground had plenty of soaking it would seem before I got home. I would say it was way to wet to do anything outside.
I did check the sunflower seeds that were in the refrigerator going through a cold spell before germination. They were sprouting so I got out some peat pots and planted 12 seeds hoping good growth will happen before planting outside. Checking other seed places in the garden saw some activity but not from the saved zinnia seeds. I hope in the next few days I can get the rest of the tent purchase planted.
Seeds mixed with sand, moistened and kept in the refrigerator for 10 days. Little white roots is a good sign. There will be more sunflowers branching out from tall stalks. We spent time at Aldi's getting items for the shelves and refrigerator. All is filled again. How two people need to make Aldi runs more times than I would think is a surprise to me.
In the back of the car, ready to get swapped for who knows what.I spent sometime cleaning up the plant containers and labeling plants for the plant swap tomorrow. I wanted to visit the Noblesville Master Gardeners Sale but ran out of minutes. It started at 8 and a good friend who made the trip said they were selling out early. Fingers crossed for tomorrow's swap. My plants are ready and I'd love to get a new perennial or two. It would seem it's an only one or two more thing. The reality is I have plenty. A gardener often thinks more!
Planted yesterday near the Dahlia bed. Just babies. The big news for the afternoon was that Mr. Oriole stopped by but Mr. Starling chased him away. Bad bird was after good bird. But I call catching orange as if flew by a true gift. More jelly was added to the feeder
Sweet smelling Mock Orange. A flower with the peony that were my mother's wedding flowers. The rest of the afternoon was spent resting in the chair with my eyes closed and my mind sleeping. Some days are like that even in Australia, so says Alexander. If you don't know this children's story book, make it a point to get it at your library. I love this story of dear little Alexander and the written rendition of his life from his view point. His position in the family was the last in line with two siblings older. I can identify with that.
A soon to be Bear's Breeches flower. Acanthus is another name for this plant. A smaller version is part of my swap contribution. I would suggest if you want to see it as it becomes...Google.I anticipate that the evening will be slow and easy. There are aches in this body today that tell me...it's time to honor what I live in with chair time. Some days are... You know the rest of the story.
