Tuesday
What choice to do should I choose out of many on a rainy dank day? The following came to mind. Read, sleep, watch the birds and visit four flower shops. There was a whole lot of all four choices with a few other things to fit in between the biggies.
Yes, it was a rainy day with temps not so hot. At the tent flower shop the rain reminded me of camping with cooler temperatures added to a bit of uncomfortableness. Just like camping but this time I got to come home to a warm house and my comfy bed tonight.
Last evening I looked everywhere for the rabbit/deer spray. I think rabbits nibbled some crocus plants. Of course they are over and done and they looked like they had a buzz hair cut. Since I couldn't find the spray, I covered the newly planted plants with big yogurt cans. This morning they were everywhere but where I put them.
It seems there was a party and I suspect my invitation got lost in the mail. I left the containers in their new spots since what was fluffed garden now is a garden full of mud. Rain seems to be with us for most of the week. There should have been five containers in this picture protecting strawflowers.
There was time to head north to the Tractor Supply Company looking for stakes for the Dahlias. I found them after a crazy time looking for the store. I was driving up and down the store's street not realizing that TSC was the store I was looking for. Slow learner you might say for sure. I got my stakes. I guess I'm not such a good TSC customer. They did have the cutest chicks peeping away under warm light. I left them there for sure having grown up on a chicken farm.
I drove through Westfield that is in the process of big time change. Then stopped at the flower tent again in Carmel. Just looking for sure. Good prices. I'll be back for State Fair Zinnias. I may pick up curry plants that grow to be more then 2 ft. high, so they claim. The smell should tell the deer to go somewhere else. I need to buy more rabbit/deer repellent.
Then the last flower visit was to Rosie's for a big pot of Crocosmia Peach Melba. I've had my eye on these for years. This was the year!
Reading happened in between trips out. Currently I'm plodding through Fung's The Cancer Code. Why? Because. That's why! The history of cancer and finding treatments fascinate me. It's not fiction but real life that interests me. And when I needed a break the pictures in the country garden book gave me a pillow to rest on.
We Made a Garden is a sweet little book of stories involving an English Garden. Then there was sleeping. I had a great 8 hours of sleep last night but it seems that wasn't enough. After lunch I added another 1 1/2 hours to the 8. Why...I don't have a clue. I was extremely tired yesterday. Not so much today. The rain brought a blessing beyond measure.
There was another tasty salad for supper. The suet has been at the top of the menu for the Starlings so before we ate, their main dish disappeared. They have cleaned out a suet cake in one day not to my liking. Yes. All the birds are effected by the rude Starlings for now. Life isn't fair even for birds.
