Thursday

Nothing was on the calendar for today.  That was a bit unusual but easy to do.  So it was a do what ever I thought needed doing if anything.  And this happened near the end of the day.  Maybe the calendar needed to be fuller.

They say in the 1600's the country gardens were unorganized even holding animals like pigs and goats.                                              I'm trying to copy.  Goats are way to much.

We have gained a dog but sorry to say it's not a German Shephard.                                                      I need to buy some yogurt. Perhaps there are enough critters in the garden.

It was breakfast as usual.  This time the Piliated woodpecker visited three times before nine.  He was noisy announcing his visit every time taking advantage of the suet and then at times just sitting where he could find a seat on some wooden posts in the garden.  Funny bird!  Later in the day I saw Mr. Blue Bird chasing after the sparrows that were bothering his house.  They, meaning B Birds and Sparrows can really be aggressive at times. Sometimes it's absolutely necessary for B B survival..

It was a wet morning so I stayed off the grass avoiding wet feet as long as possible.  With two pair of old garden shoes waiting I still avoided the garden as long as possible after the rain of last night.  The afternoon was a bit different.

Lunch happened and I watched a bit of the Chicago Obama celebration.  So refreshing to hear good words about a USA president spoken by Valery Garrett and others.

There has been a problem with rabbits this year especially when it comes to chopping down the asparagus.  Early on it was dill and common milkweed. Now asparagus has extremely tough stems but the angle cuts that rabbits make when cutting every stem identify that animal as the chopper.

The whole patch has been cut.  Some at  close to 15 inches...Rabbits on hind legs...Some short.

I traveled to Ace again for more poles, got out the chicken wire of last year and Doug helped me erect a fence around what plants were left.  There wasn't much asparagus but we'll see what happens with regeneration time.

Chicken wire has a mind of it's own wanting to do it's own thing.                                                                              It's placed on patrol duty for the summer.

All set for the rest of the summer and fall.  I can only hope they stay healthy.

On the trip out I bought another hot weather plant for a pot pulling out a lobelia that is more of a cool weather plant. It chooses to burn up in the summer. Then to the drugstore and then a gas fill up.  After filling, the news was we could take a trip of 600 miles with the fill up.  Now that's really interesting.  Up to Midland and home perhaps on one tank in August.  The fill up was 34 dollars. Super!!!

I planted the plant.  Did the fence. Stored the drugs and then sat for SOCCER with a protein drink, falling asleep and wanted to stay asleep for longer than usual.

Just before supper happened, Black headed Mr. Oriole stopped in for a grape jelly treat.  The evening entertainment involved the Fever first and then more of you know what.  Another great day when nothing was on the calendar.  We filled it full and all the birds certainly were a part of the filling.  Tomorrow it's lunch with my dear long ago teaching buddies, 45 years ago to be exact.  We could talk forever.  Well, Kay has bridge that makes her gone at 1. The three of us will carry on.
