Family time creating diversion.
Family gone for now. It was a wonderful Sat. Sun and Monday The house was a buzzing with all 5 grandsons and for the most part both sets of parents around most of the time. Lots of words. Lots of card playing. Lots of outdoor work on a very cold Sunday. Trees trimmed, flowerbeds raked and just doing and then doing some more. This cook prepared well and the food was great and lasted for the whole three days with a little extra that now will fill a few more meals. Once again the freezer is empty. Sat. night included a sleep over with all 5 grandsons finding a place in the living room. I went to bed early.
Sunday the adult Russell's took a field trip to the Pottery Shop in Broadripple. Potter Karen made our communion wear at church. Karen and I have become great friends. Potter Jared and Kimmy Russell spent a lot of time talking clay, glazes, shop space, firing processes and more. It was such fun to be a silent listener hearing about something just a bit foreign to the ear. A lot was learned, a lot was shared and we hope to return to Karen's shop after another Michigan visit. . The Michigan Russell family have vacationed for years with us in the U P of Michigan. We all have become friends with two potters, Dennis and Leslie who has passed their pottery interests along to Jared and Kimmy who now have their/own pottery business, selling on etsy under the name Tranquil Pottery blog address www.etsy.com/shop/TranquilPottery
Monday morning included a trip to Wild Birds on 86th street. Bird seed and suite were restocked and a few other purchases were made by the Michigan Russell's. Bird hangers and more have been great Christmas gifts in the past and the trip to Wile Birds was successful.
There was time to visit on the warm patio sitting in the warm sun and once again eating a sloppy joe etc. lunch. Years ago when all of the Russell's were camping together in the U P of Michigan great pictures were taken. We spent the last of the visit recreating those pictures this time with older grandsons. . The youngest then was one and now eleven. We gathered on the picnic table this year with the big boys and what seemed to be shorter old folks standing behind. We once were taller, they once were smaller. Norman the dog then has been replaced by Wyatt the dog now.
The gift that I received this weekend was the gift of diversion. It truly was a gift. At 12 noon today I visited my dentist and received the report after an examination that radiation could continue as planned with Dr. Langer's direction. Yes...I'm adding another doctor to my list. That first visit will happen April 4th. I would imagine that at some later date in April a new experience called radiation will be coming my way.
This weekend I was gifted. Diversion abounded. Good conversations happened. Grandsons were such great entertainers. Spring weather continued to top out our Monday together. Now the house is deadly quiet again but filled with good memories. After their leaving I chose as diversion a trip through all the get well cards that have come as healing messages the past months. That was another great diversion adding to the memories. God is good. God be near.
Happy you had such a nice time with family and got some outside work done too. I love the recreated pictures to compare to the ones taken 10 years ago. Someone had a great idea!
ReplyDeleteKeep getting better....many prayers prayed for you friend or should I say framily...friends who are like family!
