Busy Sat.

Busy and it feels so good.  Today was the second Saturday of the month and it's my time to work at our church soup kitchen.  There were 4 of us and we were busy all morning long gathering things to make a meal or two for our community folks who stop by the church between and 11 and 12.  There has been no soup for a long time and today was no different.  At one time we did make soup and that name still sticks with me.  Second Helpings brings us 4 large pans of something for our main dish.  We never know what will arrive but it's always good.  The meal for today was macaroni salad, a piece of pie, some peaches, some toast along with a bottle of water.  The morning was busy particularly busy and when there are 4 or fewer workers we try not to waste a minute.  .  It felt so good to be with friends working together to get a job completed.

This afternoon was fun in the garden with some neighbors visiting for a while.  We spotted butterflies and lots of bugs that were of great interest.  The neighbors were sent home with squash, a tomato, and an armload of flowers along with bugs in the bug cage..  So here comes another flower picture.  Last spring I bought 2 hibiscus bushes.  I have posted a bright red bloom and today the second plant has produced its first bloom.  When measured both flowers are 7 and 1/2 inches across.

These beauties last for only one day but there are many buds with flowers waiting to show their best side.  Later in the day, I spent some time cleaning out the camping van!  It was a sweeper job and then Eric and Kat arrived to lift some really heavy back seats back into the van that was removed to allow more room for all the camping stuff that accompanied us to the UP of Michigan.   The rest of the day has been pretty quiet.  That is a good thing.  Much thanksgiving for a body that carried me through the day, I sing with a grateful heart.

  1. How about hibiscus tea? I think if you dry the petals you have the makings for tea. Celestial Seasonings sells out - you can make it.
