April?

March always brings school memories of an art project that happened every year.  It was taking paper plates to craft a Lion face with a mane made from yarn and Lamb face with added cotton balls.  In like a Lion out like a Lamb.  That's March.  There there were umbrellas for April showers.  Yesterday and today we skipped March and went directly to April.  But I fear that March will be here by the weekend with a Lion.  We'll see.  One thing that is much appreciated (maybe) is the fact that playing in the dirt outside for me isn't happening.  My body is more than overjoyed.  So I'll take it.

Birdhouse was the theme yesterday and supporting that I collected a few bird pictures again.  So sorry the Nuthatches and Tufted Titmouse were absent from the feeder.  So here are just a few entertainers.

This little bird is one of many kinds of Warblers about the size of a Chickadee.  He has a yellow spot about an inch from the end of his tail near his rump.  He's a Yellow-Bellied Warbler.  There is a Mr. and Mrs. from time to time.  We started seeing this bird last fall and now again this spring.  They are more apt to be found in the woods.  The other old favorites are back. Among them are the Turtle Dove, Robin, many kinds of Sparrows, Cardinal, Bluebird, Red-Bellied Woodpecker, and Downie Woodpecker to name a few.  The picture of the Bluebird includes the feeder with lots of wire protecting the food that has been a help but not entirely successful in providing protection from the Starlings.

The Bluebird mealworm feeder at Wildbirds came in and I found that it would be an 80.$ purchase.  I talked to Jared about it and he found online the instructions to make our own.  I hope he finds time and can probably find takers for about 5 mealworm Bluebird feeders just within the family.  Our 5 Bluebirds that hung around all winter are not seen as often now.  If I recall correctly they are off on their spring vacation and will be back in a few weeks ready to sit and produce.  At least that's my hope.  We did have this one visitor yesterday.

Our long border of jonquils is beginning to bloom.  Color in the garden makes it a happy place.  It's sunshine on a rainy day.  It's the rainbow even in the rain.

  2. Love seeing your flowers coming? Beautiful bluebird picture too. I will have to get on Jared's list for the mealworm feeder.
