A not much day.
Not much happened yesterday...Tuesday. The temperature was on the cold side with wind aplenty so it wasn't very pleasant to be outside for very long. I tried but I didn't last. Doug is working on some forsythia that has been here for a long time but hasn't bloomed very much. The bushes need a big-time trim and he started that job a couple of weeks ago. He doesn't work very fast..He believes in making retirement real! The garbage cans are full so the rest of the branches are stacked on the woodpile to burn. Doug has done a lot of burn piles fed by the garden/yard tree branches of three neighbors contributions over many years. The burn pile is located on a huge lot the burn taking place on a quiet day.. He'll do another one when all of it dries out. I made a contribution with pulled up more ground cover.
Allergies have hit again for the second year and I've decided that the Lilacs are the engine that gets it going. There was nothing until yesterday and I worked very near the lilacs as well as doing the same thing today. It's a nose tickle that is out of control with a dripping...no running nose. that produces a record-winning number of sneezes. Another 12 hrs. or so and the medication will have this under control is where my hope lies. Purple lilacs are blooming, white to come!
So it's sort of a no-nothing day. Yes...the oriole made a long visit this morning hogging out on grape jelly. Our Michigan son Jared attracts many Orioles to his grape jelly feeder at the same time. He buys a lot of jelly. Kimmy needs to continue making pottery. Grape jelly is a suggested part of their diet taking the place of berries not here in any quantity they need. I guess the extra calories just fly away. If we could fly...........?
There is a prediction of near frost or frost for the night. Brr. I think the plants will be fine. They won't benefit from the cold but I think they will come through just fine. The neighbor's tomatoes have been indoors all day. They hate cold weather and will sit and do nothing until the sun is beating on them with temperatures at least in the mid 80's. The flowers on these tomatoes should be pollinated with bugs but they haven't arrived. I've tried hand pollination but not sure if I got the job completed. I'm sure they miss the greenhouse that birthed them.Could the rhubarb like the cold temperatures tonight? Not sure about that. They probably would like the burn pile lit tonight or securing a sleeping bag. .
Wed. update. No frost and Mr. Oriole is back for his morning breakfast.
