Sunday.

A slow and easy start to a new week.  Sunday is the marker.  I'm an early riser no matter what day and Doug is the opposite.  That offers me a quiet morning start by myself that I have learned to like immensely.  It's time by myself with not a whole lot of serious thinking.  The snow seemed to enhance the quiet softness of the morning.  It looked like marshmallow topping on the trees.

It's a marshmallow world.  Remember that song?

I matched fabric squares for sewing after church. Worked the Wordle, had coffee and oatmeal, and got the birds taken care of.  The big pinwheel block sewing will happen tomorrow. There will be more quilts.

Pinwheel design. The baby quilt needs 12 of these patches.

We were off to church around 10:20. Talked to a few friends before church and then found our pew seat again among other friends.  The service was well planned with a few minor changes that Darren and I had talked about a couple of months ago.  The music included two sung Psalms that I truly enjoy hearing. One sung by the choir and the 23rd as a solo wonderfully done.  There will be more of that coming back again in the not-to-distant future Darren promises. Covid simplified the service.  It's time to add back.  The Psalms should be sung no matter what.   One is spoken every Sunday. They are beautiful testimonies given to us that we recite each Sunday. And once again the prelude and postlude organ pieces were a wonderful offering to God that we were a part of.  Heather's offerings each Sunday are a gift to the ears.

One of my favorite pulpit hangings filled with so much symbolism.  I think it is Doris' best.  Green symbolizes new life, The color blue reminds us of living water.  The two greek letters Chi Rho are the monogram for Christ. The P and the X could be read as the Latin word pax, meaning peace. The Alpha and Omega remind us that God is at our beginning and our end.  The bottom of the gold cross is filled with dancers, reminding us of David dancing before the Lord.  That was a wish Doris had.  She danced with her needle and thread.  This banner is filled with teaching moments.

Back home on the ranch I had lunch and started again sewing patches.  It's an easy system of putting together and sewing and then cutting apart that makes the process simple, resulting in accurate sewing and relatively error-free patches.  I've discovered that if one or two places are not accurately cur or sewn the inaccuracies compound as the quilt grows. Care in cutting and sewing is a must.  I worked while watching the first of two football games, the Bangels, a buckeye team, and Buffalo.  The Buckeyes won while playing the whole game in a snowstorm.  Of course, the game was played in Buffalo.  What more can you expect in January.

Colorful field with colorful playing by a great OHIO team.

Mid-afternoon I decided to call grandson Jacob to hear a first-hand report about his experience Thurs. through Sat at Grand Rapids with the All-Michigan band comprised of the best high school musicians selected through auditions. The experience was great and one that he enjoyed.  His next big event is sending an audition tape to Michigan State with the goal of being accepted into the school of music.  That happens mid February.
Another practice session at our house during his Christmas days with us.

After doing the first sewing I discovered there was enough material for two more crib quilts.  It seems that the blocks just keep multiplying like rabbits.  There will be no more squares cut for sure.  Enough is enough. I've used up all the interesting figured cotton.  I thank Kat R. for all the interesting prints. They have been a real gift.

                                                                The last of the batch!!!!

Another football game to watch.  The evening is full of entertainment.  I won't be rooting for Dallas.  Dallas put up a great fight and San Francisco had a great workout with a successful ending. There was little snow at this game.  I should say NO snow.  It was a California setting.
