Thursday
Coreopsis once again doing it's thing.
This morning, I spent some time with my new friend Penny the composer of the anthem that was commissioned for Doug and I. We learned a little more about each other and we traded garden visits. Her garden is neater and mine is more this and that. I sent her home with some basil and two little starts of perennial geraniums.
Milkweed education tonight. This one is called Butterfly Weed. There are five milkweed plants waiting for Monarch eggs. Last summer the Monarchs only used this kind of milkweed for their eggs. Fussy little ladies I would say.We discovered that the B Bird was once again on the nest and after flying out we saw 5 blue eggs. That was a fast lay for sure. It would seem that it went from three to five in one day.
Common Milkweed. It's still a little early in the Monarch season but the one cat I found was on Common milkweed. The count is one so far for the summer of 2024.
The last milkweed in the garden is called Swamp milkweed. It's looking pretty sick. I should get a new one.
The visits lasted all morning, and the afternoon was spent doing not to much of anything. A half day of something seems to be the thing lately. Tomorrow the half day will be in the afternoon when all the altos from the choir are having a talking bee at Kathy O's. The morning will be empty for the afternoon! Yeah!
I did spend some time with markers renewing these two signs that hang in the garden. The chair got a bit more orange, and all of the pots look pretty healthy. I think another day of no watering will be considered as the right thing to do.
These two slates got a refresh today. The slate came from the roof of the education building at church after a new one was installed. Just something simple that amuses me.
Tiny deer tracks were found in the garden and the evidence of little deer heads poking through spaces in wire fencing resulted in more tomato plants disappearing. The deer spray is coming out for tonight. The plants are getting smaller, not larger.
These babies need to keep their noses out of my garden. Their little feet tell me a whole lot.Doug did more trimming, and another baby squirrel took a trip to the woods. When will it end?
Supper on the patio with another salad with blue berries and apples included has been very popular lately.
So glad you and Penny had time to get together - Hope it's the beginning of a good friendship - Nexr rime thank her for her gift to us all. . . Loved your garden tour. . . Lucky monarchs to have you. . .
