Wednesday

I pray I have some brain power left before I move on to the big house in heaven.  It's sad when the brain wears out before the body.  I would prefer the first option.  This is really important when one wants to remember what time the hair appointment is.  Poor Mike.  Working with old folks is a challenge.

Flowers still blooming.  They are a bit brittle often braking when being picked.                                      Brittle is a good word for other things going south.  But then there is peanut brittle.                                                                              Now that's a winner for sure.

I realized that my hair cut was scheduled for 10 AM when I checked the calendar, the time on my watch was 10:15.  Oops.  Another goof.  I was thinking eleven. But gracious Mike said come on in and Mike being just 10 blocks away meant less than a 10-minute drive would get me there.  So, I'm looking much better thanks to MIKE!

Woo...that got me moving.  Then with a list in hand I headed to Meijers primarily to get pie pans for pie making at the monastery.  Well, everything on the list was in the cart except the pie pans. There were none to be had.  So that took a visit to Kroger's.  I was not going home without them. Apple pie has been a Thanksgiving meal menu item for years. With pie and Ice cream available during the whole 4 day of the Georgia visit, the nine of us and the visiting monks can down a lot of pie desert. And the monks will have even more pie for whatever occasion they choose.  Jared will bring the apples and I'll get them into pie form. They will be freezer bound in the big house until they become oven bound and then stomach bound at the cook's direction.

Nine pans for apples and one for the turkey.  I'm sure we won't use all of them.                                                                      I just wanted to be sure there would be enough.

The grandsons have heard their grandmother say more than once...Rules are made to be broken and from their uncle Rick while in Georgia, they have learned that ice-cream is healthy breakfast food.  Two good adages for good living.

And then came a wait again for the return calls expected yesterday.  One came through deciding when the grand shot day will happen.  Mon. Dec. 2.  Something to look forward to after our return from the South the day before.  I'm still hanging on for the other call, but I know it's at least a month away with the reveal day. One down and one to go is better than yesterday.  I'll take it.

This afternoon the plan was to find the instructions in word I wrote last year for grocery shopping at the Georgia Publics Grocery Store.  I got smarter last year and saved all that information making this year an easy, peasy job. Well, it wasn't so easy.  I use word about once a year and with an upgrade I couldn't find anything.  Goodness me, what did I file it under. I slept since then.  I spent some time looking for it and then decided that time was better spent just getting this year's menu and shopping lists typed with information stored in my brain.  Seems I can find that better than in word. So once again that is completed the old-fashioned way. It works better for me. I can say that part is over and done for 2024.

These are the two most necessary papers to make Thanksgiving happen!

Rick will take all the number 1 items.  Dee will take all the number 3 items, and I'll do the 2's.  I know the store arrangement by heart.  No one needs to walk the whole store. Rick is always at the back of the check out line with the ever-grateful card that pulls this all off.  So with what comes from Carmel and Midland and Texas and a wonderful place to meet together, we all make it work. The first sheet is the menu. It's pretty predictable after years of planning for our days in Georgia.

  1. . . . and rhubabrb? Isn't Jared responsible for bringing rhubarb? (Oh, I'm sorry - Jared is usually responsible for FORGETTING the rhubarb they had in the freezer. What will it be this year?)
