Sunday

Another church day with a big snow promised with a lot of ice in points farther south.  I just wanted to stay put and so did Doug even though it was still brown out with a little green here and there.  I think it's the first time in the 57 years of marriage that we stayed home because we didn't want to go anywhere on a church Sunday. So, we stayed put.

I repaired and painted some things that have been waiting for a while. This bell, a part of Doug's mothers' bell collection had lost its dinger a long time ago.  I found a good substitute and decided that it needed to be sprayed black now. So that happened this morning and it's now back hanging in the yard all put together again.

I also touched up a fairy house that had fallen out of the tree.  I think the squirrels carried away Ms. Fairy but left her furniture and house.  Maybe they needed a mother. So sad.  The snow started around 11 and by 1:30 the front yard looked like this.

I took another picture an hour later.  And outside, it looked like this.
The weather folks say the storm at one point will have wind and be finished late Monday afternoon.

Once again, I did a whole lot of bird watching.  There were plenty of birds munching away at ALL the feeders at the same time.  It's really noticeable their choice of food.  Their beaks allow for certain things, and they are sharing a whole lot of information about eating habits with me. Peanuts have far surpassed most any other food except for the Finch with tiny, tiny beaks that can grab the cracked sunflower, thistle combination from their feeder, still their favorite.

His favorite restaurant serves only black sunflower seeds in an open container.  There is a nice place to stand by himself eating in peace.. There were two male Cardinals taking turns.
The Juncos are ground feeders.  They don't use any of the hanging feeders.  And when the snow comes of course all the seeds are covered.  They scurry around under the planter on legs, and I thought of putting a waste basket on its side with seeds pitched inside.  It worked for one little bird.  I think his buddies are staying warm in the barn for now.

Peanuts seem to be the favorite today.  They are energy block busters, and I think the birds know that.  Nut hatches, chick-a-dees, red bellied woodpeckers and starlings love them.  Today for the first time Blue birds were eating peanuts.  And by the way, there were six at the water earlier in the day.  They always get a drink upon their arrival. That is if the ice is gone.

When not watching birds, I was watching the Colts.

Yup...4th quarter 17 seconds to go and this happened.  But they came through in overtime with a completed field goal.  But no playoffs for them this year.  And then there is that evening game with Detroit.  Wishing the Lions  a good game with a win.

On the last look out the front door my little gardening bear friend looked a bit chilled.  I think he should go into hibernation soon.  What do you think?  I'm looking forward to discovering what a night of snow will bring.  My sewing machine appointment is tomorrow. The shop might not even be open.  That would make the decision to go or stay an easy one to make.  Carmel does a super road cleaning job.  Then there is the driveway job our lawn guy does.  And then there is a drive through a little bit of Indy.  We'll see what tomorrow brings. Hoke may be doing the driving as Ms. Daisy rides along.

4:57 Not evidence of much grass showing.  Tomorrow should be a winter wonderland of white. It is the soft fluffy kind of snow that will blow with the wind.  Not the snowman kind of snow.  Frosty will need to wait.
