Busy Wednesday
Up and At 'em. Meaning...don't forget it's a work morning at church. So, when all the morning stuff at home was finished, I was on my way to church again with Lent on my mind.
Heidi had to change her time of arrival to a later time, and I was off a little earlier than expected so the morning work at church promised to be a loaner for a while which suited me just fine. There was time to think while working and I needed to think. I went through the same process when I was teaching.
The chapel was changed to worship in the round with the altar table placed in the middle of the space. So, chairs had to be placed and then the fun began with thinking purple. The altar was covered with a purple cloth and then a fishing net was placed on top. Texture and interest were the goal. The net is made of real jute so there is a distinctive what I think is a salt-water smell. I love that. Banners have been hung and challis and patens with purple fabric has been placed on the ledge surrounding the room. The chapel is a wonderful space that provides worship times for many folks particularly during Lent.
This window is at one of the exit doors to the sanctuary. People have expressed liking it a lot. I think we'll keep it for a while changing the cloth to purple and the sticks to pussy willow sticks. It's a way to refresh the display. I think it needs something green like perhaps ivy. Agree?
I had something else in mind to do if Heidi could stay and she said she could. So, I shared what I thought might work for Easter decorations and we worked on two of the twelve inserts needed for Easter and Eastertide. She was excited to see the results and felt like we made a good decorating decision.
Heidi made this insert. She down plays herself saying husband James is the artist. I think she did pretty well. Yes, it takes a lot of ladder work to decorate the sanctuary. We'll be adding Easter banners as well on each side.
We'll call a workday during Lent to finish the ten more needed. In the meantime, there is Palm Sun. Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Woo. Heidi and I will be busy. More workdays are coming. The events mention all need a little something.
When all that was finished and I was almost out the door, Joe Wood had questions, and I could tell he was a bit stressed. So, I stayed and helped him for another hour finding some better storage space for him other that what he was using. Some items found in an almost empty closet were pitched in the throw away bin and a stop was made at Goodwill with a few other things before I finally drove in the garage. There seems to be a church rule written somewhere that throwing away something even after it's not useable is honored by folks. NOT ME! Space is precious in a church and when something is no longer used...it's O K to make a change. I found another closet that is needing help. I'll put that on the to do calendar.
By the time I reached home it was 3 pm. Just in time for lunch! The chair was a welcomed spot with a little TV but the news was a bore. So, it was just lunch. Time between lunch and supper will be short but some days are like that even in...Carmel.
Moving around the church today certainly reminded me of yesterday. I have a spring body, meaning what happens every spring has happened again. My legs and hamstrings are really sore from all the bending and clipping of yesterday. By afternoon it was a bit easier to pick up something that had fallen on the floor. Not gone but better. It's just a passage of spring. A good pain I'm happy to have. (Well, maybe)
Arriving home at 3 made it a sure bet that there was going to be no soup for supper. So, I called it a liver evening even though it wasn't the weekend. This time I made sure the liver was only fried in bacon grease as Doug had suggested. Yes...another heart attack waiting. And the word is out that organ meat need not be eaten very often. We both have anemia so it is what it is.
It's the big three again.
A little knitting in the evening helped this scarf toward completion. Not quite yet but more than half way for sure.
I loved today. The quiet times, and the times of work that brought meaning alive. It was a good day.
I posted Wyatt's eulogy wtih pictures for the brothers to read. The pictures are so cute and funny and endearing!
