Tuesday
Brrrrrr in Michigan. -6. Warm in Carmel +6. Well, it wasn't very warm in Carmel when it took a sweatshirt along with a wool sweater underneath a coat to keep me warm when getting the paper off the driveway. Brrr in Carmel. Just not so many r's in Brrr as in Michigan.
As usual all the usual happened. The B B flock was back again around 8 and I thawed the bird bath. They are patient waiters for that to happen. They are the biggest drinkers. I should take a lesson.
I knitted again while watching the news and then got all the things together that needed attention at the bank and post office. I thought about thistle gathering. Maybe Doug can push me along. It's got to happen soon if it happens. I might wait till it's 20 degrees out or until the snow melts.
And the post office got a visit with a promised Georgia delivery of Friday. We'll see how that goes.
All ready to go South.
So, the rest of the morning was sort of pokey. And I just didn't push it any farther than pokey.
I spent some time looking at the results of the blood draw yesterday on the portal. There were some red numbers meaning a little bit out of the ordinary. Just a bit off kelter but I'm not too surprised. The same was true after my head surgery. So, it does say perhaps I'm left of center. I need to eat more red meat, prunes, broccoli, kale etc. I could do liver and onions with bacon once a week with no problem. Liver was part of my childhood experience.
Around noon time, I decided it was chicken vegetable soup day, so the pot came out and all the soup stuff joined each other. I can depend on Doug showing up at some point enjoying the soup smell. He didn't disappoint me. In the process I broke a favorite Dennis soup bowl. What a bummer. It's the handle and maybe I can get some powerful glue for repair.
Doug had his monthly B 12 shot in the afternoon. I think he might benefit from also having a diet filled with iron! Should I try nails? He probably would like soup a little better.
When he appeared again, we were on the road again to get thistles. And they were right where I remembered them to be. So, after a few snips, we were in business for Lent. S hooks have been ordered for hangers, and I have a little burlap ribbon job to do. I did a little messing around with an idea for Heidi adding this to a grape vine cross. I suggested six of these for the sanctuary. Heidi wanted to do many more. I think she needs to save her energy for the after-Lent time of Holy Week and Easter Sunday. That's a killer week. Yes, someone died.
I did some rug work and some scarf work. The B Birdsssssssss hung around more than ever. That's why you see more than one s typed this afternoon indicating many of them. It was a wild time. They were almost as crazy as the Starlings. Meal worms are very high on the menu. It's like candy to them.
Look what showed up. A flower. I must have the only George Washington Presidents Day Cactus in town.
And on Kimmy's gifted cactus plant...two buds for the first time. I think they will bloom to be the first ever Ides of March Cactus. There is nothing like a simple Christmas Cactus at this houseSo, the day had a rather slow start. But always be aware that things can change. And in some respects, it did. Thistles, burlap, s hook ordering, bank, post office, soup, birds, knitting, rug, texting. Another great day of doing.
I often wake up with a song singing in my head. This morning was one of those times. The song was Make me a servant. It has played for most of the day. Servant hood is a way of living that should be like breathing. It's necessary for life. I hope somehow you can see servant hood starting with thistles, burlap, etc. Is there servant hood in your life? It brings all kinds of gifts to your life. Perhaps some you like and some you don't. But it is necessary, just like breathing. The sermon has ended!
