Saturday

I call this a rainy day.  But there were breaks in the rain and sometimes I just took a quick walk in the rain to check on all the little things happening.  Rain brings happenings.  The temperatures have been quite nice.

I saw this from my kitchen window.  Immediately grabbed my camera/phone and headed out to take a picture of the Kathy/Eric gift of Blood Root.  This was the big happening of the morning.  How beautiful. I would think the Oehler woods would be full of these.  I need to visit.

The needles were busy but when the ladies game got to tense for me, I retreated to the sewing room.  I tore a lot of fabric, enough to make 24 burps.  That helped a little with tenseness.  During the day 12 burps were completed using some interesting stitching to decorate.  I had that machine humming, and it declared a break. The sign comes on saying that the motor needs a rest.  And the sewing machine doesn't work until the rest period is over.  It's a controller for sure.  When working on the last 12 I'll be a little kinder. I think I had the peddle to the metal on this one.  Blame it on the ladies.

Ready for some good machine sewing.

The blue bells never disappoint.  And there are more happenings coming every day with plants in unusual places.  What a gift.  I sometimes think I'm playing, Where Is Waldo when I'm looking for them.

I pulled some weeds and worked on some very difficult edging places full of grass and Charlie.  Some say perennials in a garden makes things easier.  I say no way. Weeds love to find their way in among every perennial I've had.  They do fill spots but sometimes they do that in excess.  And they don't bloom all summer.  But they do have some helpful attributes that I look forward to seeing year after year.  BUT, I don't need so many.  Some have moved on to their happy hunting ground.

This was the hard perennial weed picking plot this morning.  In some cases, because the biggest problems were at the edge, I scrapped the problems out. I pulled a lot of those "pretty" little blooming plants.  After flowers come seeds you know.  I think they are carried by the wind to many places.   I left the mess on the grass for a cleanup on another day. This plot is full of Susans, Artemisia and Queen of the Prairie. Now, not so much Charlie other weeds and grass.

I did a little transplanting yesterday and true to form, a little creature visited last night and pulled some plants out.  It happens every year.  Once again, the sparrow carried nesting material into the blue bird feeder.  I've decided to keep the empty suet feeder hanging for a while.  Those starlings seem a bit upset.  Good deal. The bird bath was the busy spot today with lots of baths by different birds.  Infact, I dumped the water and filled the B Bath with clean water.  I cared and I'm sure the dirty water made no difference to the birds.  The milk jug continues to protect more little seedlings.  I am hoping for a lot of flowers this summer.

I would say today was a rather simple indoor day with a few exceptions.  That's a good Saturday for me once in a while.  I'll take it. There will be more ball tonight.
