Wednesday

 Simple Wednesday.  Some things worked and some things didn't work.  Sounds like a normal day to me.  

We had rain in the night and more today.  Good things are happening for the jonquils, but the low temperature and wind are horrible.  I shouldn't complain when I know the UP of Michigan is getting a blizzard today. I knocked a bit of dirt off the clumps of grass after the night rain but there is a long way to go to smashing those clumps.  

I did some lacing on the rug.  But then I moved on to something better.  A trip to JoAnn's for yarn. Their yarn stock has taken a big hit but the bolts of fabric...they are everywhere.  All my JoAnne friends seem to be gone and a whole herd of new folks are there working.  Looks to me like the final cleanup crew.

I checked through the freezer and decided it was time to make turkey vegetable soup.  So, the chopper came out and the house smelled like it was supper time in the middle of the day.  I was in and out with bird stuff and every time it was in time, yum, yum. So tonight vegetable soup with some of the bean soup now in the freezer along with some of the turkey veg.  


Today's irritant is trying to get on my I U portal.  I messed up my password and I'm having big trouble with setting a new one.  Doing the same thing over and over should tell me that I'll get the same results.  I'm a little thick headed that way.  I get a new code that's needed but then I can't get back to the portal.  Grr.  Technology and I'm screwed.  I need to talk to Eric. 

               The plant and pot gifted from Kimmy.  I bought the mushroom at JoAnn's this morning..                     It's an Ash Wed. Cactus. 

I did some knitting, packed away the new yarn and watched a little TV.  Last night was Pacer ball night along with some other games.  They almost lost but came through once again. I missed by design some other TV events and have heard today exactly what I thought would be the message last night.  It was predictable. I hit the nail on the head.


How to start a succlent...twist off a peddle like this one.  Let it sit on top of the soil.  If you are lucky after some time a little growth will happen at the site that had been attached to the plant. Can you see it?Roots will appear and eventually, a long time from now, there will be another plant.

So today is Ash Wednesday that marks the beginning of Lent.  There are forty days until Holy Thursday. The Sundays are subtracted from that count.  A time of fasting, praying and reflection in preparation for Easter is observed during Lent. North will have Wednesday evening suppers along with different worship services following the meal.  Heidi and I are doing the first meal. Tomorrow we will finish the sanctuary preparation for the coming season.

                                        The big pot got a little refreshing this morning. 


It was a good day even with windy and rainy conditions and with cooler temperatures but still a good day for doing a little of this and that.  .

Red sails in the morning, Sailors take warning.   The warning sign was miss thinking about a wonderful day with a gorgeous sunrise, but it turned into anything but wonderful. And after yesterday's blog entry, what was hoped to be a good week had a dismal beginning.  Jared called to tell us that Sunday evening Wyatt, their beautiful red poodle stopped eating and by three in the morning of Monday as Jared was driving to Lancing to the Vet at Michigan State, Wyatt died.  Wyatt was one wonderful dog in every sense of the word.  Smart, friendly, protective with absolute understanding about so many things.  Today and the days ahead will be days of mourning eventually becoming times of reflections about all the good that Wyatt brought to us.  His camping chair is now sitting in our living room reminding us of that goodness he gifted us.  After hearing about this event, I took a walk outside to clear my head and heart and found the first of many crocus bl...

 Another great celebration with family with a few little twists as sometimes families can produce.  But celebrate we did with lots of food and lots of card games and just lots of everything that makes memories.  We're tired and glad to say the celebration as good as it was, is over for another year.  And we're looking forward to seeing what a year from now brings.  Today was a day of picking up the pieces to move into busy December. A bit of Christmas decorating happened at home.                                        The stockings were hung.  At least two you see and three you don't.  It's been a crazy day. It started with more cinnamon rolls and then a little visiting and then it was out the door to the yard where we stayed all day long.  The hum of the chainsaws were in the air but not before the piliated birds visited.  Yes, it was chain saw heaven some would say.  The huge maple tree got its promised trim that was needed. That took a long time with the grandsons stacking wood.   A skill they have learned well and can be demonstrated with great execution.  Some was stacked and branches piled as to dead or alive with many ending up on the burn pile before the day was over.  Others were left for Doug to take care of but not many.   Then it was on to two oak trees and a crab apple.  Add the smoke tree and another very old huge maple tree.
