Thursday

Last night, we were in the eye of the storm, and it didn't feel good at all.  All day it was that hot sticky atmosphere that says tornado.  It just didn't go away.  So there was wind, hail and 2.5 inches of rain in a very short time.  The report is tornado damage in Carmel.   The front is stuck to the east of us till perhaps Sunday so there will be more rain everyday till the front moves on.

Out of one come many.  The one was found at the North Plant swap donated by Nikki and Paul.                                                      It's one heck of a beautiful multi colored iris.

This morning, I walked the garden finding more sweet peas up, radishes have germinated and so has the lettuce.  Now the hope is that the rain is not to much for them.  They can be tough little plants, able to take a lot of whatever comes their way.  The herb garden needs a few more bags of soil.  It's low with water standing. There is talk about snow next week.  It's April.

At another swap, a snowball bush from Nikki and Paul.  What a giver and what a getter.

I moved to the front of the house working on the long bed that goes from the north to the south.  There is a lot going on in that area.  The main focus for today was digging out onions.  They are not welcomed.  Years ago they were very thick in this area.  It took nearly three years to eliminate them by digging every chance that came to me.  Believe me, there was a lot of digging.  I learned how they reproduce even recognizing the seeds they produced. Eventually I can think I did some conquering.

I need to check again for any onions.  I'm sure I've missed a few.

More raking happened and a few things moved on to what I hope is a better environment for them.  That's what a gardener does.

It's easy to move Lenten Roses when they are small.  Just a big pain when they get big.

The afternoon was broccoli soup time.  It smells so good with broccoli, mashed potatoes for thickening, garlic with a little celery and a whole lot of bacon.  Yum, Yum.  The only problem is that there will only be three broccoli soup meals at the most.  I'll enjoy all of them.

This little guy or his other family members have lived in many different places.                                                                You have got to be tough to be successful at that.

Tonight, at six I have a small group meeting at church.  Our Sr. Minister is working toward a doctorial degree needing a small group to meet with him.  There will be 4 of us and he gave us 4 questions to think about.  It should be an interesting meeting with a lot of talking.

That's about it for the day.  I would say that's enough on my calendar.  Life is good.

Kathy found the wren house as she started her walk this morning and thought it was wonderful that the storm found it and blew it to her mailbox.  I told her that Mr. McNeely had delivered it.  Remember him on Mr. Rogers' show?  Speedy delivery.  If the storm had anything to do with the gourd delivery, I can guarantee that it was a speedy delivery.  Carmel has proofed the storm was here.
