Wednesday
Today was an easier day. Why. Because it rained this morning. But before the rain cam I did a garden walk and everything seemed to be OK with the exception now of where the rabbits can reach. There could be three long eared fuzzy beasts. The third one seemed to be the smallest of the three. So once again there was garden interest from those with four legs. Last evening where all could see the deer sauntered down the driveway. I thought they were nocturnal animals. I guess not! Once again, the challenge is to plant things they don't like. Sweet peas, Love in a Mist and Babies Breath can be found on their menu for sure.
The rain washed all the dust for bugs away and the zinnias looks very good. There was the dusting gig late afternoon to make everything eatable safe until the next rain. A new row of all orange zinnias appeared. I think the rain brought that on. Woo, woo. Not too much, not a sprinkle. It was just right. Sounds sort of like a story I heard.
I caged the hibiscus this year. Last year I needed to move a steppingstone path to get us around the big red girl. We'll see if a cage works better.
The four, four o'clock seeds were planted by the clock listing the time as four o'clock.
The bird in hand appeared in the small herb garden.
The sage with the sage is doing well.
We nixed the moving of more wood chips for the last of the path covering. They are heavier when wet. Maybe tomorrow, maybe not. But tomorrow, Kathleen is coming in the afternoon for some plants that will do well in shade. So sorry she missed all the Solomon seal and ferns thrown away while she was somewhere in Europe for a long visit. But she will have something to show for her trip here. There is always enough.
I turned the sewing machine motor on for a church job. Haven is our Duke intern for the summer. We are pleased this program has a restart. Her Alb needed to be hemmed and this afternoon I got on it. It was a simple fix and just needed a push to get the job completed. Lately my fingers have been in the dirt, not in the fabric. We'll take the robe to church Saturday when creating arrangements for the altar.
Supper tonight was a wonderful garden salad picked about 10 minutes before we ate. Yum, yum.So, in case you haven't heard the Pacers WON last night in a rough and tumble game. I thought there would be a broken something before the night was finished. It was another football game with a round ball and hoop. Or perhaps the game moved on to a hockey game with slamming and no pad protection. It was ROUGH! There is one honker of a Knicks player that was on the way toward doing a lot of damage. So tonight, I'll be on the chair watching the western game at 8:30. I want to see who we might be playing next. Confident me resulting in a win tomorrow.
I've lost count with the chipmunk count total. Today we added two more. The highest day was five. They really have come on strong this year. There has been something every day except one since we started the have a heart trip to the woods years ago.
Tonight the second grandson is leaving high school behind. Mid-august he will begin his life as a college freshman at Goshen College. The family school for at least 100 years. Congratulations Andrew. You are on your way to some new beginnings. You are ready.
Our deer come out earlier and earlier and more and more of them. Even several years ago, a couple would be out in a field at twilight away from the monastery. Now six or seven come before sunset - some right up in the lawn next to monastery. They know the bow-and-arrow hunters are away from here on the other side of the road!
