Saturday.
Tomorrow, we celebrate Pentecost. The coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. The birthday of the church. During the summer months the first service is in the chapel. The flowers will be moved to the sanctuary for the second service.
You could call this the same old same old morning. The new suet cake was available. Rain last night eliminated the Friday evening dust so there was a Saturday morning dusting. I emptied two of the jugs of their plants filling 99.9% of available garden space. The last two jugs with plants are on the warming burner on the stove as I write hoping to give them a little boost. The weather continues not to be so hot for today's transplants but we're moving on.
This bed and the one on the other side of the path are finished in the big garden.I fluffed some of the dirt and decided that the garden had taken all the minutes I had to offer for the morning.
Another bed finishedI discovered where Peter spends his days and nights sleeping. I'm wondering if I can catch him with our big fishing net. It might be worth a try.
Peter's bedroom is in the middle of the picture where there is nothing but green. He redecorated by snipping off flowers. I'm wondering if this is where he was born. There is nothing but a dirt clearing in the center of the yarrow.More canna leaves are appearing every morning, and the chicken wire guards are protecting the cannas, sweet peas, cosmos and red beets.
A nice little row of red beets in this second planting.I dug out some milkweed that was shading the early tomatoes.
The other two tomato plants are twice the size of this one. There is plenty of milkweed still growing.Speaking of shade, our back tree shading the house, as you know is gone and the huge maple tree at the neighbors that also provides shade for us will be taken down on Tuesday along with some of their trash trees. We certainly will have a different back yard with more sun coming in.
We did a trip to the library. More gardening books came home with me. I love to look at pictures. A stop at the drugstore was included. Upon arrival home we discovered a chipmunk had succeeded in learning how to get trapped. Doug did the woods trip. I'm thinking this trip could be the last one for a while. Am I a dreamer? Maybe! Now if we only could catch Peter. That would be great. We need to make a plan.
Sweet pea protection working well. And the end of the day once again was sort of the same old same old. I checked the flowerbeds. Then planted a few more zinnias which really makes that 99,9% more real. There are plants left to plant but that will only happen if the bugs have more meals in the garden.
This little corner got a clean-up. It's doing comparatively well. Rain brings weeds.Did I say the last trip to the woods. At 6:30 Doug took another chipmunk to Gray Road Park. I guess the beat continues for now.
It would seem that I need to find space in someone's garden. Pesto time!
