Monday
It's been a quiet Monday with a lot to think about. Of course, yesterday still is with me and I thought a lot about what made it special. This is some of my thinking. The day evolved with no planning. It just happened and people did what they wanted to do. What came naturally to them in word and deed was a gift, and it all was so genuine and real, I could call them all friends, some new and some long time. The day was a blessing in so many ways. Life has been good, and the beat goes on.
This morning, there was another breakfast on the patio. Same old, same old was so good. I found cleome to fill in the space where ground cover left for Michigan. I did some dead heading of perennial geraniums. I sprayed for weeds in the stone path. That really worked well. The rabbit off was spread around and more dead perennial sweet peas were pulled out. The bunnies having chewed them off leaving the branches to die. It is what it is. I prepared soupy water for the Japanese Beetles, but they haven't appeared today at this point. I'll check again tonight.
One on the left and one on the right. It won't take the long to show their stuff. There's a good chance that altar flowers will be needed this Sunday. I'll need a few zinnias and a text to Kathy will help that to happen. I'll be preparing three vases. I'll have a few zinnias but again the bunnies are still snipping away at the zinnias, leaving evidence on the ground. Black Eyed Susans will fill some gaps along with Kathy's zinnias.
When checking on the canna's early afternoon, who should be staring me down not more than 8 feet away was mother deer. For once the camera was in my pocket. She didn't move and neither did I when only moving to pull out the camera.
We live in the land of animals. The blue bird took a zippy flight pattern out of the box almost in front of my face while I watched and the male wren is singing morning noon and night for another Mrs. His first family has taken off. AND, the chipmunks seem to be on vacation somewhere which for now is not at our house. Yes. I still see baby rabbit who eats like an adult.
This afternoon I pulled out the plastic bags we used at soup kitchen for carry out meals. Having them counted out and open ready to be filled just makes the Saturday job a little easier and faster. I have enough bags ready for all of July, August and one week in September. I need to bring more bags home from church to once again stay ahead of the job. For each Saturday I work we now have 75 bags ready to use. The numbers are picking up on the weekdays and we'll be ready if that happens for Saturday as well.
Tonight is our monthly North Church, North side supper at McAlister's. It's always great when we have time to sit and visit and eat together. There is always something new news that pops up unexpectedly.
We have July birthdays so we both received a cookie at the dinner. How sweet in so many ways.
Then it was back home for a quiet evening. The weather has moderated a bit today, and the heat isn't such a burden. Yes, another day of living and feeling more than blessed and free from so many worries others have.
And bummer, bummer. The Fever are off tonight resting, I hope. The world needs to wait till Tuesday to see once again how entertaining they can be, moving that ball through the hoop. Go Fever.
