Saturday

After yesterdays under the Maple Tree cleaning, today was a day to catch up with rest.  And I did.

Clearing that space under the tree...I call that WORK!                                                                  The tall weeds, all the sticks and horrible ground cover are gone.

But first there was breakfast on the patio and a walk in the garden. I'm happy to report that it would seem the deer were somewhere else for the night. I think I won for at least one night.

Sum and Substance, at least 4 ft. across.

I did some watering with the sprinkler on two beds this morning.  This is their first drink after their planting day.  I try my best to plant things that can exist with less water.  Zinnias and Snap Dragons are in that family.

The snowball bush has really settled in after a great spring of water.  Another North swap plant.

Vinca plants appear at the nursery midsummer.  They earn TLC to get started in the hot days of July.                                                      But once settled in, they are on their way.

They are getting ready for their second bloom of the year, the first in the garden.

Native perennial plants in the garden usually need less water.  The red beet seed got a drink last night.  They have yet to appear, but they should be up soon. Cabbage, Kohlrabi also were evening drinkers.

If I had sheep my Monarda might look like this.  But I don't!                                                               Middle Michigan temperatures can be a little milder at times. It's a native.

Watering a couple of beds was the main job this morning which took about 30 minutes.  Then it was time to move to the easy life of all the usuals, meaning TV, sleep, cold water to drink and sitting.  I spent a few hours going through all the gardening library books.  I discovered I had collected some very good books.  The best one was how to garden when getting old written by an old gardener who knew what she was talking about.  I may be needing that in a few years.

                                                                Another Kimmy/Jared garden picture.

This plant is loaded with grape tomatoes. There are even more at the top of the plants.                                                          Up high safe from raccoons and possums.

                                                Rabbits...did you notice PLURAL!

Rabbit ONE!

Walgreens came through at two different times with medicine to pick up.  So that meant two trips north. Finished and done once again!

Rabbit TWO!
They have moved to munching on clover! Good rabbits? Not sure yet.
Just babies but can do a lot of damage.  Thankful for Menards.

So, I would say it was a simple day.  One that I needed and enjoyed more than I thought I needed and would enjoy.  July brings that kind of a life.  It's time to slow down.  Most all the planting is finished with just one or two more plants to go. Maybe!  So, it's sit back and relax time of year.  It's time for the color to appear and it on the way.
