Wednesday

A little time with a little thyme.

The calendar say Doug has an eye appointment day.  It says I have nothing.  It sounds like a home day.  I'm ready for that. But, I would say the day started for me at 4 with a wake up and a look out the window.  DEER on the north side of the house.  I woke up Doug yelling at the deer.  Poor guy, it's the deer's fault.

Rose of Sharon starting to bloom.  Doug gave this bush an extreme cut a few years ago.                                                                      It's starting to bloom again.

Breakfast was early. TV news... same old same old. Nothing new, newsworthy. Just more heart-breaking reporting. So. it was time to walk the garden, and I was greeted by a caged raccoon. Another animal would be making a resettlement trip at some point this morning. And while waiting on that trip to include Doug,  the raccoon seemed to be spending time sleeping. What a deal.

In the meantime, I planted more red beet seed.  Added more morning glory seeds to what was left of a bunny meal and worked on the patio garden.  It's a new one since the tree is no more.  It just needed some clearing of meadow forget-me-nots and a few other things.   The plants in that area are looking pretty good with flowers coming in the not-too-distant future. For a first time in the sun with no tree, it looks not too shabby.

The ferns are loving their sunny spot.  Well, some.  Others have a little sun burn.                                                             The mixture of many plants is rather interesting.

With Doug morning coffee and paper completed, we moved on to the woods with Mr. Raccoon. I was happy to have that ride completed. Doug was off to Noblesville, and I was on to the garden.

One of three but not an early tomato.  I would say it's a BIG tomato.

I always do the same thing every spring... buy an early tomato, only to be disappointed with performance.  It's the same old same old every year.  This morning, I shoveled Early out.  The tomatoes on Early form low to the ground and critters come along taking a bite of a tomato and then on to something else.  Once again there were bites.  The second tomato is in the ground with good soil, great fertilizer and a super enriched big drink of water.  Done. Another drink tonight will help the transfer.

It claims to be a late fall tomato. I hope I haven't made it too late.

So once again the garden is full.  One more necessary in the next week is to make a cage for the beets.

It would seem that I started the process, but the beets are not animal safe at this point.                                             There is more to do.  No rush, the seeds are sleeping at this point.

I won't forget the rabbit repellent.  I'm seeing just one little bunny today.  Perhaps the rest have moved on.  Am I a dreamer?  Probably.  More daylilies have disappeared.  This bunch is usually the first to go.  Not this year.  I think it will be the last.  I don't think the deer have found them.  They are not on the path from their lake home passing by looking for salt blocks to their creek home.
                                                                            Doug's favorites.
Living next door to Doug's favorites are my favorites.

The afternoon ended with another cute little squirrel finding its way into the big trap.  I've been watching all the squirrel antics knowing the trap would eventually make another capture.  It happened.

Another trip to the park with the BIG H a H trap.                                                                  I guess there were two quick car trips today just down the road two miles or so.

So, another Wednesday in the summer.  I guess there have been about the same number as there are Mondays.  That's a lot.  I call the Wednesdays as good as the Mondays.  Was it Perry Como who sang It was a very good day??? Did I get that right???
