Thursday
I started the morning a little late. Sleep was in jerks and the last jerk ended at 8AM. Woo, was I surprised. How does one start the day so late in the morning. Well, I'm not too old to learn. So, there was breakfast and a little TV. And then stuff happened just like always.
One of the jobs of the morning was to dig two big holes for Jonquil bulbs. I'm hoping the two holes are enough to plant all of the bulbs, a gift from Gina. There are a lot. The hole reached three inches deep. It was like digging through a cement patio. Woo. So, the next thing I did was pour 6 gal of water in each hole. The water hung around for a while. That job received a temporary reprieve.
Then it was off to Living Strong. We started with visiting, hearing good outcomes from cancer procedures and more. It was a good feeling morning. We were off to the workout room with weights for the morning workout! That went well. We have an excellent teacher, who is 84 and very fit knowing what we need and how to get us there. The workout was an hour. When the class was over, I moved on to the machines. My goal is to strengthen the right side where back muscles were moved to my head during my first cancer surgery. That side of my body is very weak, but my head is really, really, really strong and continues to work. I hope I get a chuckle!
It was home checking on the jonquil holes. The water disappeared and more was added in the afternoon. There will be more digging in the morning. Since the farmers barn was located on our plot of ground and foundations were not removed, I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't a cement SLAB under part of the garden we haven't found. The water isn't draining so well in this hole. We'll work on getting six inches deep tomorrow. We have found slabs in other places.
Then it was into the ripping room preparing more fabric for more burps. The flannel for 40 more burps is ready to go with the sheet in the ripping process currently.
Some of the afternoon was spent with fall work in the garden. More zinnias were pulled but I left some still within my line of sight. There will be another cart full one of these days.
A few things need to wait till after the first frost. I'm thinking Daliah's and Canna.
This was a FULL cart. So pretty but so sad. Something to look forward to next spring. The pond was emptied, and the liner was pulled and cleaned and now back in the garage till next spring. There might be fish next year although the solar pump keeps things stirring and mosquitoes away.
Noah's pond is packed for the winter. The gazing ball made it to the dining room table without being dropped. It is so heavy and I'm so happy to have that transport finished without an accident. It does make a beautiful addition to the garden.
One of the water feeders made it to the garage again. The bird bath stays during the winter. And the seed feeders were filled again. So far, no Starlings in the afternoon. Sh! don't give them the word.
It was a busy afternoon with a lot of walking to get all the yard jobs completed. The shovel was never where I needed it. The garden cart was full more than once. I call it more than enough good exercise.
Supper was Chilli again with onions and cheese with some good crackers and a little applesauce. The evening might see a little ripping to get all the pieces together for more burps. I'm sure I will see the chair once again with the TV perhaps bringing John Lewis' Good Trouble news. One can always hope.
Little by little the garden area is getting ready for another winter. I would presume that one or perhaps two more days sometime soon will finish the job. I'll miss working outside but when thinking about temperature changes, maybe I won't miss it. Another great day that brings me thoughts of gratitude for many things. I'll mention new and renewed friendships at the Y as one thing on my list. God is good.
