It only gets better. Perennial Sweet Peas.

Are you wondering how anyone could spend so much time in the garden and still have more to do.  I'm wondering the same thing. I would think what's with you if you weren't me.  Morning after morning, day after day and then weeks and all the summer months.  There always is more if one wants to do more.  When more wears out then finished happens.  I'm waiting for finished at some point.  But then it's fall clean up.  I'm guessing finished might never really happen.  Did you follow me on that trip?  It's my place of escape.  Everyone needs a place no matter what the place might be.  Doug's is reading and old cowboy movies.  Ugh.  Not my cup of tea at least in the summer.  Humm.  I do like gardening books! Cowboy movies?  Nope!

One of four different mints in the garden.  A beautiful plant this time of year.                                                             Mint iced tea is so refreshing on a hot summer evening.

This morning was a morning of loose ends.  The hens and chickens needed more Superior rocks.  Done, but I'm out of rocks needing a replenishment.  The gallon jug plants were screaming... get me out of here.  So, I did with the last five zinnia plants finding a home late afternoon when the sun was a little gentler.  The picnic table was loaded with left over stuff and I got the garbage stuff to the garbage can with other stuff taken to their rightful place.  The Artemisia and Slack Eyed Susans received their trimming with the hope that later in the summer they won't flop all over the place.  More Susan clips could happen. newly found tiny perennial geraniums were grouped together with a few ferns moved to some empty spots.  The marigolds missed their drink yesterday.  I remembered today.  And the State Fair Zinnias that missed the chopping block last week needing to grow a bit, received that this morning.  The plants will bulk up stronger, able to hold more flowers. I will need to wait longer for the buds to appear. Other more recent transplants were checked out.

Another form in the garden made out of natural material.

Doug snipped more Pussy Willow's, and I built another cage this time larger than the first. The cage will support strawflowers which are very tall and beautiful when mature.  Another typical morning you might say.

Two tomatoes!  My mother's wish was to have tomatoes for her packed lunch at the church sewing circle by the first Wed. in July.  It didn't happen very often.  I'll admit, I chose the plant that was flowering when making the purchase.

I had another great Jello yogurt lunch with bananas and almonds.  I needed an afternoon snack but missed it all when falling asleep for most of the afternoon.  That was really a surprise.  I would never say I didn't like those surprises.  Refilling the energy bucket was needed.

Before entering the I U Schwarz Cancer Center, one has the opportunity to choose a rock with encouraging words painted by one of the employees.  Rita chose this one today.  I think it's an excellent choice. I hope she shares it with the Living Strong group when it convenes again soon.

Supper was a little meatloaf along with some rice and of course a salad.  This time a smaller one than usual.  It was a positive day for sure.  Although seeing more than once a tiny "cute" baby squirrel sitting on the bird feeder after reaching it by climbing the brick wall of the house was an unexpected event to start the day, I tried to find the humor in the event.  I removed the feeder for a while.  He hasn't been back that I know of.  We have a plethora of squirrels this year. I know flock, herd, bevy, will not work for squirrels.  Plethora works for all. I think!    Well, I just checked AI and it said dray if it's a family of squirrels.  Scurry if not a family.  Always learning.
