Wednesday

Well, today had some interesting things to report.  Well, I would say it wasn't particularly the same old, same old day that you usually hear.  But close, perhaps, Dee!

YES, It's the beginning of State Fair Zinnia season.  My favorite time of the year.

One of the almost first things to happen was snipping three Dahlia flowers so that more could be coming along behind.  I arranged them along with some Becky Daisy's and a few other things including a spring of Rosemary.  I texted my good dahlia friend Kathy to see if she was home.  The arrangement was meant for her.  Nope.  She was painting at church.

So off I went with flowers for her discovering that I had arrived about 30 minutes early.  She's had a week not wanting to repeat. Those happen to all of us. So painting would be a big help. The crew of church friends arrived to paint the director of music's office changing the color from a porch floor green to something better.  The green was nothing but a big mistake. There was some good talking time before I left for home.

These were to delicious, yummy vegetables that made it to the salad bowls this evening.                                                          It just doesn't get any better than this.

Another group, the hand bell ringing, that included grandson Noah and his mother Kat, were gathering in the choir room.  They were having a bell polishing morning of work.  Then it was also the usual Wednesday Shephard Center morning and afternoon weekly celebration.  So the church space was a buzz with activities.  And true to form I had forgotten my camera to record any of this.

Back home on the ranch and a short little trip north happened.  It was time for both Doug and I to renew our drivers licenses.  Doug had his magazine and I had my iPhone for entertainment during the wait.  A huge surprise waited for us.  We walked in, took our number that would be called and that happened immediately with no time to even sit down.  Woo.  The new license is in the mail! After that surprise we stopped at the battery shop and now the garage door opener works once again.

                                                        Another color.  More to come.

Lunch happened and it was the same old same old with a little TV and sleep.  Then it was off to get another prescription and a battery installed in the second garage door opener.  A stop at the library book slot gobbled up gardening books with two novels returning home for reading.

I texted with Julia, Ramona's daughter about helping Ramona with an eye appointment next week.  Of course I said yes.  I don't have all the details yet but I'm happy to be a part of changing a problem into a good solution.  Julie lives in Nashville.  Her sister lives in Portugal. I heard from my surgeon but still waiting for an Endoscopy appointment.  Perhaps tomorrow I will hear. So far all my inside parts are behaving.  That's super good.

I call this a gentle little friend that causes me to smile when I visit.

I spent some time out smarting the squirrels.  I flunked that attempt once again.  I keep trying but must admit I'm not so good at solving squirrel problems.  I took some pictures for the blog not wanting to attempt that again after supper.  The biting bugs just lie in wait communicating..."here she comes" again.  I thought No-see-ums lived in the south.  Well, maybe there's a new south.  I'm full of itching bumps again.

For now...it's No-see-ums, squirrels, deer and yes STARLINGS on my black list. So the day had it's different moments. I'll add it to the list of good day for a lot of reasons.  Thanks be to God.

The ever tough little Lantana that withstands the heat better than anything I have ever seen.  While in Kenya visiting the site where Out of Africa was filmed, I found six foot hedges of Lantana circling the parking lot, blooming.  It's a perennial there where freezing doesn't happen often.  Indiana makes it an annual every year.
