Tuesday.

 I was up early and had a great morning with Wordel a a horrible morning with Connections.  I'm still working on it!  I hate to make mistakes.  

I spent some time entertained by the birds.  In fact, I thought their environment needed a little holiday sprucing up.  This is what happened.  The Nuthatches and Tufted Titmouse were really, really happy with the peanut feeder.  

                                                Now doesn't this look a little more interesting.                                                                                At least seeing this from the kitchen window brings a smile.

So it was an easy morning.  The sun was out and I decided to walk the garden.  It's a sad place now.  I miss seeing new things appear.  I'm really looking forward to a new growing season.  We could skip a few months and go directly to April.  

.I decided the afternoon would be soup afternoon with split pea first in the soup kettle. Since I had just a little ham and no bone I was looking for my favorite substitute, Better than Bouillon ham flavor.  I decided after stopping at the fourth grocery store, it was not going to be in my soup.  Why doesn't the grocery stores just sell hambones? I don't need a big ham, just the bone?  


Then after the split pea came chili.  There's enough for sharing and I will.  No bone is needed for chili.  

The house was full of good smells with chili on the supper menu.  Tomorrow it's baking day.  I found some chocolate chips I forgot I had.  There will be a new recipe with C C included.  The magic ingredient is oatmeal.  The outcome being cookies. Another day of good smells coming my way.

Red sails in the morning, Sailors take warning.   The warning sign was miss thinking about a wonderful day with a gorgeous sunrise, but it turned into anything but wonderful. And after yesterday's blog entry, what was hoped to be a good week had a dismal beginning.  Jared called to tell us that Sunday evening Wyatt, their beautiful red poodle stopped eating and by three in the morning of Monday as Jared was driving to Lancing to the Vet at Michigan State, Wyatt died.  Wyatt was one wonderful dog in every sense of the word.  Smart, friendly, protective with absolute understanding about so many things.  Today and the days ahead will be days of mourning eventually becoming times of reflections about all the good that Wyatt brought to us.  His camping chair is now sitting in our living room reminding us of that goodness he gifted us.  After hearing about this event, I took a walk outside to clear my head and heart and found the first of many crocus bl...

 This morning...nothing different.  Cards and Pancakes with no rain and none promised.  That could change but so what.  A little rain never has stopped us from doing.   The first big bottle of syrup and the first bag of pancake mix is gone but there is more stashed away.  We never run out of breakfast fixings.  The second book is well on the way. I think it's the same for Doug.  I spent the afternoon with Natasha sitting on the deck and visiting with her mother Dorthy.  She is a great storyteller.  Natasha's dad is our potter friend Dennis.  Natasha is also a potter among many other things.  This is a picture of the shop.  A large deck behind the deck is a sweet place to visit and make new friends.   Today our church friends Jeanie and Neal arrived.  They will be here for 3 nights.  We'll do a little visiting later around the Jared Russell campfire giving them some ideas of what they might like to ...

 It's 7 PM and 66 degrees maybe with a breeze off the lake.  Changed to long pants and a better jacket.  It's cloudy right now with a chance of rain tonight.  Most rains are not predicted so it's maybe yes and maybe no.  So what was today like.  Check what was posted for yesterday with  kayaking deleted. Read, slept, walked and played cards once again.  We had icecream at the Fort Store.  That was a first.   We played a couple of games of Kubb.  It's a great yard game that one can become proficient in quickly.  The WiFi is really slow for picture up loads so one will need to do.   Tonight the JB family will begin packing for home.  The camp kitchen will come down and tomorrow morning the tent will be next.  The hope is that they will leave the campground no later than 10 after their last pancake breakfast at our dining fly.  It's always a sad time but the plan is to do this all over again next year...
