Wednesday
This beauty is in the garden again holding forth. I think it's stunning.
April 2025 is over. Woo... This morning started a little usual and the unusual became apparent. The drill consists of getting my yogart, blueberries, almonds going and then I take out the suet and black sunflower seed feeder. We deprive the racoons by bringing those inside every night. But when I went to hang the feeder the tree seemed to have moved. Now that's unusual for a tree of at least 60 years of age to move but it did. The limb was hanging close to the ground with a huge branch on the roof.
Neither in the right place. Yes, what we thought might happen at some point happened. The old maple tree will be no more we're thinking after tomorrow. What a way to wake up. It's dripping with money. And this tree isn't even a whole tree. Part of it is missing already. All the same it's not a cheap exit for the tree or us.
So, we messed with that for a while. I decided it was time to find a new place for Pansey's. I filled the rest of the pots and the garden with what I purchased a few days ago. Done, finished, task completed. I know there will be more.
The rest of the day was spent edging and gardening. The sick tree had some fantastic decayed inner stuff so I dug that all out and spread it on low spots.
Tree decay added to the soil. Every little bit helps. The sand got spread. The pea gravel got spread and more gypsum was spread. And there was the ever-present game of looking for weeds. I declared the afternoon as a multiple spreading afternoon.
At some point I said I was TIRED! And I was. So that took me to the patio with a last chance of sitting in the shade of the maple and that brought on some naps. Woo...did that ever feel good? You bet. We'll miss that tree for sure but know that our neighbors have huge trees that spread their shade late summer afternoons. It is not the same, but I think we'll be fine.
Last night's Pacer game was a stunner. It was a 20 points behind starter. What were they thinking about? But there was an exciting overtime with a Pacer basket just short of the buzzer that gave the Pacers the win of one point. Heart braker for the Bucks but a great win for the Pacers. So now on to Cleveland. There are a few days of rest and then it begins all over again. My friend Nancy is a Cav fan. This should be interesting.
In the ground and ready to become even prettier. The week remains a free week with doing what we want to do. Tonight I want to make a trip to Ace to get some deer off. I've been covering plants but every night the deer chooses something new to munch on. I can't stay ahead of this hungry young one. I'll be spraying more than enough. Well, I hope that is the case.
I rethought all of that and decided that I would cover again tonight. The body says stay home.
There is always music in the garden, but one must be silent to hear it. I love that little gem of a thought. See if that works for you.
Watch for any small punctures in your shingles. That’s what caused my ceiling collapse on Christmas morning. We figure something fell on the roof a few months earlier. Small hole wasn’t seen from the ground, only when standing right on top of it.
