Saturday
This has been a busy bee day. Woo. It started the usual way of waking up. That was a good thing to happen. Breakfast on the patio happened again watching the morning busy birds. Humm. I also discovered the bunnies had been busy. Yes, back again in the garden even after the eviction notice. Dumb Bunny! The two leaves left on the broccoli are no more. Now we have a new piece of garden art.
The area to the north of the patio is lush with green. So lush the steppingstones had disappeared. It happens every year and the thought was I need to do something about it sometime soon. Well, the soon came about five minutes later. It was 7 am and I worked in that area till 8 with a big OOPS. I was to leave at 8 for soup kitchen work. So, it was a very quick shower with a clean change of clothes, and I was off to 38th street again.
I left this in a mess. The garden cart took another full load to the B Blue tonight. The work team was slim but we all knew what needed to happen and it did happen. We fed a lot of people and a lot of extra food was taken home for weekend eating. I would say it was a flying morning in the community room.
Plates ready to be filled for those wanting to eat a meal with friends in the Community Room. When checking the garden again at 1pm, more things were eaten. The wire was moved aside, and the tiny cabbages were in the process or had completely disappeared.
The morning glories were nibbled on again. I have more seed. It will be the third planting.
So, the car took me first to the library for another stash of gardening books. Then on to Lowes for chicken wire. Then came Ace for garden stakes and finally Habigs for replacement plants. Vegetable stuff is gone with the exception of tomatoes. I bought a tomato and some kohlrabi. The bill was a total of 2 bucks. They really don't look so hot. I think I'll see Rosie tomorrow to get more little cabbage plants.
I took a spin around the neighborhood and stopped to visit with some folks I hadn't seen for a while. They are working on their back yard and it's a very pretty quiet spot. I'm sharing some of my super good Becky Daisies later in the year.
Then came another session with the shovel and rake finishing the path that was started this morning. The stones came up and I spaded the path. Tomorrow I'll add preen along with some really cute zinnias that need new homes. It should be a sweet place in about a month. This morning, I transplanted some flowers forgetting to water them. They got a drink tonight and I think by morning they will be fine. They are tough little things. That's just what this gardener needs.
I bated the large H a Heart trap hoping for a bunny. I even sacrificed two more broccoli leaves. In addition to the bunnies, the deer seem to be everywhere. The two babies are bouncing from yard to yard during the day and dad is doing his stuff as well. I beeped him out of the neighborhood as I was driving home after my afternoon out. The big hope tonight is that I don't catch a raccoon.
So the day has been busy. Time flies when that happens. And I think I did a pretty good job of keeping up with what I needed to keep up with. All is well. I call this a good day. Tomorrow is a day of rest. That sounds good.
