Saturday
Seasonal change is evident. Here's the proof. Looking like late fall with green grass now moving fast to dormancy. We heard thunder far to the south with the promise of rain coming almost daily next week. Lettuce is behind the fence.
There was a great night of sleep that boosted what I thought would be a good morning. But it was a very lazy morning that felt like doing nothing. So, I did nothing for quite a while. I called it a poky way to start the day.
Just a bit of color to make the day worthwhile.I finally walked the garden with the cart and tools but stopped and talked to Gina about many things. For one thing she asked about Halloween in Holiday Hills. How is it celebrated? There are a few old folks, a few middle-aged folks and a few young families. A great mix of a little of everything. Big lots with long driveways are challenges for little legs. Our street is a bit easier. T or Treaters are usually small in size and numbers.
Still, something to look forward to during the garden visit, which included a Monarch still busy. Zinnias will stay with me perhaps till frost or drying out to nothing. Then the tools got busy with me hanging on. I found another Susan. Filled the garden bin with basil, and a whole lot of other stuff. For now I would say we have the best smelling garbage cans in the neighborhood. The cup plants ended up on the burn pile because of very heavy stocks that do better there then in the B Blues with two stuffed to the max. So after about 2 hours, I stopped with the take down. Moved inside and ate lunch.
More empty spaces but for sure there is more to do before the snow falls. I discovered one more clump of Susans. She has topped off the two B Blues.I did some phone calling about the trip to Georgia and my take is that our travel decisions will be made after the next big doctor visit Sept 29th with the most current health information. Then I'll feel better about decision making. I'm always nervous about the BIG visit.
I always like the pattern that comes with the Hens and Chicks. This winter the area will be covered with chicken wire, protecting it from desperate deer looking for anything to eat. There are other things. I'm AWARE!Another snooze with a little football and then off to Goodwill just for some entertainment. I found a great pair of new tennis shoes for 8 dollars. New Balance. Last year's model makes them cheap.
And after visiting 5 Goodwills I found only one pair of flannel sheets, each for 8 dollars. I left them at the store. I can do better. Then back home again with time on the chair and more football Purdue and N. Dame. Supper and a quiet evening. Just what I ordered. It's been a fairly slow day doing enough to say there's been a contribution made to the garden and elsewhere. But not over done for this body I live in.
