Thursday...Christmas Day
Some would say this was a strange Christmas Day. It was quiet unlike many when the kids were small. The theme of part of the day was to get ready for family company tomorrow. So, after a morning of knitting it was time to prepare.
A ham bone was cooking in juice with the hope of adding potatoes and green beans at some point this weekend. Scrubbing happened at various places not because of visitors but because it just needed to happen. The sweeper did some work, and the floors were washed where needed. The bird feeders were topped off, and bathrooms got a super good tweak. All of the unwrapped gifts were wrapped and tucked away ready for the reveal coming on Saturday afternoon.
We moved on to the Eric home for our traditional Christmas evening meal. There was a lot of conversation, mostly in the form of grandma questions thrown at Andrew. So many questions about what is happening at Goshen College now in the 2025's compared to the 1956 to 1960 years. There was a whole lot to talk about. And Andrew shared to his grandmother's enjoyment.
Then a text came and we heard that there was a change in the air with Michigan getting ready to receive in the morning a grand ice storm. Woo. I think there is a change in the air. Just when our family get together remains to be seen. No traveling will happen tomorrow as planned. Safety first is the priority. I remember Christmas came in the middle of January when illness changed our get together plans.
So, for now, the house is clean, the gifts are wrapped, the food is ready when needed and tomorrow I might plan as a day off. I'll never turn one of those down. So, plans have their ups and downs, ins and outs. It's a go with the flow sort of thing when one cannot change the circumstances. It is what it is.
Another good day for living. I have loved many of them. Today I added another.
