Wednesday...Christmas Eve
Today was sort of a catch-up day. It was the calm before the storm sort of feeling. I'm not sure why with no storm on the way. I'm remembering those crazy days of school employment with a classroom full of crazy first or second grader with toys for some and trips for others on their minds. It was really hard to have enough energy left over to spend on the family. That's over and done. Sometimes I miss that but not for long. Those years are filled with great thankful memories.
I also miss crazy family kids all excited waking us up before the crack of dawn at our house. Doug and I getting to bed at three after midnight service and wrapping gifts. Kids were always up before six. Christmas day has changed a whole lot. But what has stayed pretty much the same is the church midnight service Christmas Eve. I say pretty much the same. But there have been changes. No choir singing three services, then two and finally one. Now it's just singing in the pew. That's good enough for me. And for the first time ever in my life, the late service is at 9:30. Woo. Now that's a big change.
I spent some time out today. I found the Y closed. The grocery full of men shopping with a list from the misses. That was crazy to see. They needed G P S connections. Both yesterday and today I got a big giggle from men drivers out and about on busy streets with other men drivers. They usually are a work during the day. Believe me it's a different world when they are at work. Both yesterday and today I got a huge car toot telling me about my round about driving and my signal driving. They were not impressed. I didn't agree
. It gave me a big laugh irritating them. The guy drivers were not Merry And Bright. I thought...take a hike. It's Christmas. Get over it. I would say little patience was evident.
The last stop was for pills. It was totally impressive when seeing so much medicine was ready for pick up. The drug store was ready for the tax man business.
So, this year's Christmas Eve plans are to attend the 9:30 service. We'll leave home around 8:40 in order to find our pew. Then back home ready for bed at a decent hour. None of those 3 am things now on our to do list. Merry Christmas folks.
The stocking stuffing is finished. There are one or two things to wrap, and the pizza is in the freezer and we're good to go with other food. So, I think I'll knit and sleep. Last night was pretty short for some reason. I've run out of reasons. Age just lets me go with the flow so to speak. Over thinking gets me in trouble.
