Sleep lasted long last night.  I would say it's a gift beyond measure that started the day.  The usual things happened and then I was off to a walk around.  The rain did it's magic and the walk was a pleasure beyond measure even when accompanied with wet feet.  

I discovered the primrose would not work where I thought I would put them.  The place is overflowing.  So I found new places and split them up.  It's a first year for me with primrose so we'll see how this goes.

I spent some time just sitting after lunch.  Then it was a move to the north side of the house with moving ferns, adding Hostas and giving it a final rake out.  It's full so I'll shut the book on the north side.

Then I moved to the east side deciding to dig out more L of the V.  That happened and I replanted more vinca from other places adding Hosta plants where there seemed to be holes.  Some Hosta plants showed a clear second plant so those were moved.  The place is full so I'll shut the door on the Hosta moving van on the east side.  I will need to shovel out blue flowering plants.  Somehow they found their way east.  

                        This was one of the children that was weaned from the mother.  She is nearby.

I made a run for Grape Jelly.  I'm still hopeful to the tune of TWO grape jelly jars finding their way home, ready for the Orioles.  It's that HOPE thing.  So the jelly is ready and the feeders are full waiting for the beautiful orange bird. Other feeders were filled. No one was forgotten.  It was a great day to sit.  It was a great day to work.  And when more warm heat arrives consistently,  it's off to the bigger garden where more things wait to be readied for the butterflies.  There will be vegetable planting for humans. And already Asparagus and Lettuce will be on the dinner menu Monday evening. Two things from the garden.

Life is good.

 Back home again in Indiana.  That's where we were arriving late afternoon yesterday after a wonderful time with Jared, Kimmy and the grandsons adding Kimmy's many relatives to our visit.  It was just what I needed.                                                         Happy times but good grief.  What's with the hair, girl?      We arrived late at the Jared/Kimmy Russell home Thursday afternoon again rediscovering family again along with many free-range chickens, three cats, joe, the horse, three ducks four ewes and Eli's sheep for this year's 4-H entry.  Numerous goldfish would join us later in the week.       This is Eli's friend Hope holding renamed Barb because her nest was found hidden in the rhubarb.             ...

Red sails in the morning, Sailors take warning.   The warning sign was miss thinking about a wonderful day with a gorgeous sunrise, but it turned into anything but wonderful. And after yesterday's blog entry, what was hoped to be a good week had a dismal beginning.  Jared called to tell us that Sunday evening Wyatt, their beautiful red poodle stopped eating and by three in the morning of Monday as Jared was driving to Lancing to the Vet at Michigan State, Wyatt died.  Wyatt was one wonderful dog in every sense of the word.  Smart, friendly, protective with absolute understanding about so many things.  Today and the days ahead will be days of mourning eventually becoming times of reflections about all the good that Wyatt brought to us.  His camping chair is now sitting in our living room reminding us of that goodness he gifted us.  After hearing about this event, I took a walk outside to clear my head and heart and found the first of many crocus bl...

 With a good sleep to start the day, I was ready for whatever would come my way.  So, it was breakfast, the paper, a garden walk and more.  And there was a whole lot more.                                Th ese wood chips brighten my day.  A super reuse of a wonderful old friend. I was off to Quilt Quarters for yellow and green batik to add to the stole making.  And the morning was spent with the fabric cutter and the sewing machine.  I was on a roll but there were other plans for at least part of the morning.  A neighbor's tree down the road fell on the power lines and the electricity was no more.  So that meant the sewing machine didn't work.  It isn't the treadle type machine, you know.
