An Inside Day.

Image
And the reason.  RAIN.  My goodness, what a gift.  And along with the rain gift came moderating temperatures.  So my friends received their gift of a drink and all is well in the garden...or maybe even better than well.  There is nothing quite like a rain water drink.                                     I've never known a Fusia who died from overwatering.                                                                                                                             ...

A Me Day

Image
I am quick to admit that most days have me somewhere doing this or not doing that.  Today had a lot of me in it doing for me..                                      Lantana looking pretty good.  One of 12 different color combinations I decided that I was not going to water a thing today.  They had to do without me.  So I didn't do that.  The first big doing for me was a haircut.  Woo,  It was more than overdue with the feeling that a huge bush was growing out of my head now covered with snow but still feeling hot but not as hot as earlier this week.                                   It's white alright!!! Thank goodness for the thickness that comes with curls.                   That's...

8 degrees

The heat was turned down for today just a tad.  Tuesday was just a pressure cooker day leading to some limp folks at this house.  So today was a bit better.  I think the high was 91.   I started the day early, early with another round of watering.  Only the annuals got a drink.  The perennials probably will put me on the black list.  I hope to taper off with this job when the rain arrives.  Big storms that were north and south just pushed all the dry air over Carmel.  I am really happy that the farmers got a bit of relief which hopefully arrived in time for corn and beans.  Our road trip takes us through a lot of farm land both in Indiana and Illinois. Sad-looking fields are depressing for sure. I went to Kat's grocery store around one and purchased two items Kat told me about.  One item is a Salmon cream cheese ball.  It's a great spread for a bagel for sure.  Yum.  The second thing was a chicken potpie which al...

Cooked in Carmel

Image
My phone says that it's hot in Carmel.  It's close to 100...that being 99.  It's a cooker for sure.                                      The cup plant continues to bloom with more flowers opening every day.   My breakfast on the patio allowed me to see our hawks again.  This time they were on the ground fussing with something.  It would seem sharing something of interest was not on the agenda.  They fussed for a while until one of them gave up and flew off.  They sure are entertainers.   Today I had a six months visit with my radiation doctor, Dr. Langer.  It lasted no longer than 5 minutes.  That was long enough for me. It wasn't uncomfortable. The 5 minutes visit told me that I'm fine.  The message is that I'm seeing other doctors related to the cancer world and Dr. Langer wants to stand in the ba...

The Fourth!

A day centered with celebrations of many kinds.  But a day that marks a difference for many folks.  It's a mixed bag of emotions that seems to come along all too often.   So for the Russells, another day of quiet.  Doug made his wants known soon after we were married that his celebration on any holiday would be a quiet one and that has been a part of what the Russells do.  Stay off the road, out of traffic, away from crowds.  That makes for slow and easy celebration day.                                                      Two pictures of a beautiful deep orange.   I decided a few days ago that hot dogs would be roasted over a fire along with chips, baked beans, and ice tea.  That happened, the dogs were deliciously roasted to a done look that tasted the best ever.  We could ...

Sunday Excitement.

Image
The day started early for me and my neighbor Roddy across the street.  I was walking the garden and realized my neighbor was also up with a walk around his house at 6:30 AM.  That signaled to me that this was the day that his house would be changing color from a dark orange-brown with gray trim color to a clean and sharp white with gray trim.  I must admit that would not be a Sunday morning event for me to do but I am not a decision-maker for others. THANK GOODNESS!  So the first part of the morning was spent watching and sending pictures to Suzie also the occupant of the house. I am an excited neighbor knowing that love and care once again have returned to the home across the street that had been vacant for many, many years, slowly decaying as we watched.  One side and front have been tackled, a great transformation with more to come.  Then there was the mid-morning trip to church hearing words that challenged the mind to think of current issues tha...

Henny Penny...The sky is falling. Another week lived.  There have been many and for that I am thankful.  Seeing children become responsible adults, then grandchildren finding their place with good mentoring, learning the ins and outs of life.  That is gratifying.  Life has been good.                                                                                           New Years Day  2022 The garden ...
