August 31 Thursday.

Another super day.  This morning I took time to set on the chair.  What a treat.  It was a cool morning with the birds flitting about.  While sitting I thought of the flowers at my feet giving their best without saying a word but their message was being heard loud and clear. I will do this again tomorrow.  This is my Father's world.  It feels more like my Mother's world or garden.  All nature sings and around me rings the music of the sphere. In the rustling grass I hear her pass. She speaks to me everywhere.  I'm wondering where you hear your mothers? This is the sight I saw from the chair this morning.  The sun shone from the east coming over my shoulder.  It was so quiet and still.  A magical moment in the garden. The chair is open any time of the day for anyone who wants to sit.  It's waiting for a passenger. My neighbor Judy has a wonderful saying in her garden.  There is always music in the garden but...one must be silent to hear it.   Today, there was time to ch

Today was another very good day.  It started with all the usual and after thinking about the white chair during the night I knew I had a good outcome plan.  SPRAY PAINT.  Off to Ace Hardware, I went but I just didn't stay with paint.  There were a few more plants with my name on them!. If you think that is true, I have a bridge to sell.  Many folks buy Mums.  Not me.  I call them boring. I hope your feelings aren't hurt!  So it was orange lantana and purple calabrachio. The purple flowers look like little petunias. Five plants in all with a bag of mulch.  Spray paint...orange and red!   I've had what I call a neglected bed that is front and center in the garden. It just didn't look cared for. Well, it wasn't! Next year the hope is that it will be full of Lupine.  Fingers Crossed.  The first year of growth from seed has been completed. They are perennials. There is more hope for the second year.  I added the five plants to the front of the neglected bed. This year&#

It's been another good day starting with a good sleep.  I'd like to make it three in a row.  Doug was up early and I was at work on the crossword.  So he had to wait on the paper for a little bit.  Easy crossword.  The morning temperature was very crisp with a registered 55.                       Another tomato is on the way.  They just keep coming at a pace we can keep up with. Then it was to the garden in another area with weeding and edging.  I'm addicted,  This place was a bit more complicated with needing different things. I emancipated some stepping stones. I need to do more.  But I persevered until I didn't!                                               My flower rule for today was if it's tilting it gets chopped.   Doug needed to make a drugstore run and while there he got his flu shot.  He also got another one, not covid booster.  I think it has something to do with keeping one's lungs healthy.  And he forgot his HAT at the drugstore.  Mercy me!  So I

I waited until this mornng to post the blog needing some pictures.  Another butt end of a teenager checking things out.  What a wonderful Monday!  Well, the sleep time wasn't so hot but the day was super good.  If you give it some thought you'll figure out why!  It was a usual morning but this time Eric got dropped off in Broadripple.  I just remembered that I needed to do Wordle but the crossword was finished in record time.  Oatmeal with nuts and raisins finished off the morning prep!   Then it was time for the usual garden walk.  What a difference a decent temperature makes.  And the wonderful day started in the garden in the morning and ended in the garden in the evening with many hours in my favorite place.  Oh, what a beautiful morning.  Oh, what a beautiful day.  What a wonderfully gifted day.                   I bought Cosmo seeds for next year's garden.  So pretty and double in bloom this year.. Today was an edging day.  It's something that I love to do and it

Today once again I feel like a human being.  The heat is gone for now.  Sincerely, thanks be to God.  This last week has been tough for many reasons, heat being one huge reason.                                                     This greeted me this morning as I opened the patio door.   It was church day and we needed to be there early to be at a table answering questions about Bread and Bowl.  Once again it was talk time with folks learning about our mission to the neighborhood providing meals three days a week.  We offer meals to eat at the church and meals that can be taken out.  We have reached 10,000 meals already this year.  We're rolling!   I tried a new way of hearing the sermons.  I lived streamed the sermon while sitting in the sanctuary.  The sound system is not compatible with my hearing aids.  There is a delay in hearing the sermon but I'll take it. It's not the best but it works.   With the heat not a factor, I spent some time in the garden watering the pots

Another busy morning with the usual and then around 8:15 I was off to church to work at Bread and Bowl.  Heidi and James were off to Scottland this morning leaving a bit of a hole in our crew.  It was filled adequately by my Kenya friend Regina who is visiting with Sarah Ellen and a few other friends.                                             This is an old Grossbeak picture from last year.  Just a memory but a good one.  We managed quite well during the morning once again serving about 90 meals during the morning hour. We are serving about 1000 meals a month on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and two Saturdays.  It was busy and that's a great sign knowing that the community is quite comfortable during their visit with us.                       Of course, you will think of spring when you see these.  Yes, another memory picture.  The afternoon was very quiet with icing a knee that was a bit sore from another fall during the morning.  I am convinced that the shoes are the problem.  And for

State Fair Zommoas/ Another day of heat and I'm a wet rag!  Just go away is my mantra.  Next week can't get here quickly enough. This morning was another one of those 3 AM things.  That doesn't make anything better either.  I'm just happy I don't have a responsible job somewhere.  So what have I done today? Sleep.  Yes, today has been a bit of a foggy day in front of the fan with my eyes closed.     I spent about 5 minutes in the garden this morning dumping a few containers of clippings that I collected a few days ago.   There were about 5 minutes of patio sitting until it got too hot.   We're having a meal with the Mamlins tonight at Rick's Boatyard .  Joe and Sarah Ellen worked in Kenya for many years.  Joe's first nurse was Regina.  She developed serious heart issues that were repaired at Indiana University Hospital.  While Regina was recuperating she spent some of that time

As promised, today was a HOT one.  A very hot one.  I think I read that the heat index was in the teen hundreds.  So what did I do with a very steamy day?  Not much or even better nothing at all.  It was a day to sit in front of a fan and dream about air conditioning or something close to that.  Days like today are few and far between.  Living through it means that today is done.                                                Another hibiscus plant with many more one-day flowers.  It started with wordle which didn't go very well.  So I quit that one.  The crossword was better.  Breakfast happened and the morning was one that came next.  It was pretty simple.  At 11;15 I was off to Woody's library restaurant with lunch with Carol and Jan, my first-grade teaching buddies longer ago than I can remember unless I really think.                                                          A cleome with stripped peddles.  A nice variation. The afternoon brought lots of bird activity at th

First!  If you happened to be praying that I have a great night of sleep...your prayers were answered.  It was an all-nighter waking up at the alarm clock at 6:10 AM.  What a wonderful gift to start the day.  And the day started with all the other usual stuff.                                                     This morning's garden walk started at the Hibiscus.  A trip to Aldi's got me started on a new casserole recipe with broccoli and ham.  I divided it into two baking dishes.  One for us and one for Rita and Bob.  It was fun to make.  The results being in the I'm not too certain section.  Since radiation eating is a different experience.  It could be old age come to think of it. Food has an uncertain taste. But I added Harvard Betts to the meal.  Now that is one delicious dish.  It tastes wonderful.  It could be the bite that vinegar brings.  I did enjoy time in the kitchen making the new dish.  I'm sure another new something will be coming soon. The walk continued
