Tues...Valentine's Day.

Image
Today was a pretty easy simple day.  Fifty Years AGO...it wasn't.  Jared became a Valentine's baby on the 14th.  It wasn't planned like that but it happened.  He was just a little bit late.  NO a whole lot late.  Jared became the second Russell kid with a 14th birthday.  The first is his Uncle Rick.  And you know...they are two peas in a pod. Did the 14th do that?  They drink the same water or something like that.  So Happy Birthday on Valentine's Day to both Jared and Rick.   Jared's birthday cake was made in cake pans that Doug's mother gave me.  She made Rick's birthday cake in the same pans.  Great job Kimmy.  What?  No candles!   And speaking of Rick.  Good things are happening like his breakfast order this morning included everything on the menu.  Today his legs worked.  Yesterday they didn't.  The nurses sang the birthday song to him first thing this morning.  ...

Monday

Another week has begun.  Sunday doesn't count.  It's just a day.  Monday is the beginning of the week.  And it started with solving Wordle and an easy crossword finished!   Then it was a short walk to the sewing room.  You guessed it...more bibs.  Today was pretty productive.  I took a break with a trip to JoAnn's again.  This time I really, really needed a new cutting wheel.  The one I was using was long ago worn out and driving me nuts.  This time the wheel is supposed to last twice as long as what I had been buying.  We'll see.  I can say it really cuts making me even a little nervous.  I found some fabric on the cheap shelf and also a striped companion fabric to what I had purchased a couple of weeks ago from the cheap shelf.  When I got back home Doug thought the bag was a little big for only needles.  What a jokester!                  ...

Church Day. Sunday.

Image
It was one of those Sunday mornings that has become simple and easy.  I'm enjoying it more than ever.  Easy up.  This morning I was on the sewing machine with 2 bibs finished in little time.  When all the needs are piled up waiting to sew, it's a fast track to sew on the button.  That's the last thing before FINISHED!                                           I think I'll need another jar of JoAnn buttons before this saga is over.   We were off to church at 10:15 arriving about 20 minutes later. Good mornings were spoken to a few folks at the west entrance and then I was off to find my pew.  It was a meaningful morning.  The sermon was from Matthew.  The music...outstanding as usual.  O Clap your Hands...Rutter and then a negro spiritual with Kate singing the solo part.  Woo...She filled my hea...

Saturday.

A good morning start with another two bibs birthed.  But then it was downhill for a bit.  Ran out of white thread again and broke another needle.  I needed tougher needles.  I needed bigger spools of thread although I had already bought two of the biggest at JoAnn's. It was an interesting morning.  I just had to laugh at all the things that were going wrong, running out of white thread, breaking needles, crooked sewing that needed ripping out, and dropping buttons, and fabric on the floor.  I remembered that nothing last forever! That includes thread and needles and bad luck.                      My morning loss needed an afternoon resupply.  I bought tougher needles. (I hope)                                                    ...

Friday. with some exciting news.

It was one of those early starts although the start didn't really start till 5 am. I got Eric to the bus for his trip to downtown Indy.  Crossword and wordle were completed  There was a little TV watching. I decided to make two bibs, one with one layer of fabric and one with two layers of fabric on the inside. Which one would be the best with this new fabric.  After they were made I threw them in the washing machine to see how they would survive.  Drum roll.  The survival rate was noted at 110 percent.  Which one was the best?  That was determined later in the day.   I walked the garden...It continues to be the brown season with nothing new.  There was a little more TV watching, some thinking about the next bib to sew and then there was molasses cookie making while Doug met the tax guy who got all of the tax information in the mail for us.  Done!                    Mo...

Thursday

Woo...It's a windy, blustery day.  That's Winny the Pooh talking.  I planned to take a walk around the garden and the wind was blowing the water right out of the birdbath. The bird feeders were swinging like the squirrel had just disembarked. The noise was impressively loud racing through the pine trees.  I waited for a later walking time. A check on the body tells me that the hamstrings are a bit tight this morning.  Just a bit.  Yesterdays trimming is impressing the body.  I hope I have more body sense this spring compared to other years.  I hate tight, tight hamstrings and other sore muscles.  One tight I can deal with.   You have heard me mention Doris Douglas.  Her husband Bill was known to their grandchildren as Pooh. This saying hung in their breakfast room.  When her daughters were cleaning her apartment at the Forum for the last time they offered this Pooh calligraphy to me.  It was created for Pooh by a goo...

Just a three bib Wed.

Another early morning...This time 3.  Crazy.  I seem to be able to function during the day so I'm not stewing about it.  Great morning with a litttle of this and that.  I mozied into the sewing room around 8:30.  Crossword was easy.  Wordle ???It's evening and I'm still thinking.  A pumplin over the hill has provided a midnight snack for some creature for a few nights.  I suspect an opossum, I've been treating toenail fungus for almost 3 months with pills.  Today I learned about the next step in treatment.  The doctor prescribed some expensive salve. One kind cost 60$.  One kind cost 600$.   He prescribed the 60 dollar bargin?  I hope I'm worth it.  This crud is stubborn for sure.  The doctor thought they both worked about the same.   I'll be back to see him in three months.   Then it was off to the hardware store for a lawn rake.  Can you believe our rake is 55 years old and h...
