\                                              A fall patch of hardy lettuse makes a BLT taste pretty good.   I'm still messing with this machine with the hope you will get something tonight.  The day started with the sheets I bought yesterday at Goodwill.  One sheet is a King so there is a whole lot of ripping.  A King for 3.99 I think is a steal.  So, I'm ripping big time.  It's a great way to get a little exercise that pays well having a good baby outcome.                                                                         Pretty Prints for pretty babies. Then it was on the...

Monday

I'm a little late tonight.  The computer had a big bug in it and my debugging skills are not so hot.  So I messed with it one more time and I'm having just a little luck.  Just a little.  It's 10:59 so I'm going tobed Not everything is working yet but there is a smidgen.  Maybe by tomorrow morning this little machine will be fine again.  But everything is OK with me.  It's just this little black box that's not doing what it should.   I'll give you one picture.  Well, I guess I won't. The gremlin living in this computer said NO!   I made a gourd bird house for my friend Angela.  She has done so much for the Umoja Project in Western Kenya and I though she earned at least 50 bird houses.  But today I gave her one for her back yard.  She lives in Cool Creek here in Carmel. I think she moves her house every time I need to visit her.  Today I just had a good laugh but finally found the corner her house is n...

Sunday

Image
There is always a time before we leave for church that is usually two or more hours in length.  And it usually is filled with sewing.  That happened this morning again with another 10 burps to add to the stash.  So the numbers keep increasing. And the machine just hummed along like it should.   I happy to add that Jack Frost (remember him?) was in no hurry to return but I'm sure he will be back. I made a garden walk to check on the cannas.  Should I dig or should I not?  That is the question.                                                    Now what is the answer. They seem to be a little stressed. We left for church at 10 arriving at 10:30. Heidi and I made a tour through the church looking for tables that we use for All Saints Sunday.  And we found all of them.  I talked to Pat a...

Saturday

Image
I woke up with a lot to do today.  So, after breakfast, there was time to sew.  I finished some burps and started some other burps until it was time (8:00 am) to leave for Bread and Bowl.   We had a good working team and moved from one thing to another with no breaks until there was time to visit. The hole crew knows what needs to happen to make the morning a good one.            James is preparing garlic bread for folks to eat with their meal while in the community room                And where needed all are willing to step in and get all in place to make Bread and Bowl successful.  Yes, and visit we did.  Sarah Ellen's sister was here from Atlanta.  Such a treat to see her again.                       Meals ready for take out packed extra bread, deserts and whatever has been donated. The 11 o'clo...

Friday

I'm not quite sure where the morning went.  It started around 7:30 and then it seemed that it just left at some point.  Maybe I can blame it on the sewing machine.  It was pretty busy doing its thing.                    Now aren't these cute little girly animals.  Five spools of thread each holding1095 yards                                                   of thread were delivered today.  Now that should last for a while.  I was at the drugstore getting more pills when the weekly 11:00 siren went off which really surprised me about the hour.  I sure lost track of time today. Busy does that.  I spent some time uncovering all that was covered keeping the plants warm, which once again probably would have been just fine without sheets all...

Thursday

Image
I would say Thursday is also part of the brrrrr weather.  It would seem that someone left the door open to the north.  And...yes there was a first frost although it always is at the bottom of the hill at the beginning of the frost season.  Now tonight the report is that we're having a KILLING frost.  Maybe I should use the electric blanket instead of a sheet.  Last night the sheet worked just in case.  I'm covering up again tonight.  Check tomorrow to see if it worked.                  No damage last night when the sheet blew off.  Tonight the sheet is tied to the wire cage. So, the morning wasn't so early but not late either. The sewing machine got my attention again.  You shouldn't be surprised.  Nothing was finished but just started.                                   ...

Brr Wednesday

Image
Garbage day and we managed to have 4 Big Blues at the street.  That's the most ever for one pick up.  Ornamental grass takes up a lot of room.   I ironed the 10 burps I worked on yesterday and did the top stitching on all 10.  More flannel was ripped and folded.  Neighbor rang the doorbell borrowing the crock pot for the Sat. Chili party at the park.  It's going to be a Brrr party.  Should I or should I not make Chocolate Chip Cookies!? We had a great visit.  Then Doug and I were off to Aldi's for that once in a while tour of the store.  Remodeling has increased options by at least 100%. I'm learning quickly to look in new places for old stuff. We're set for another week or so.  After everything was stocked, I was off to the Y for a walk on the treadmill.  A mile was the goal reached.  Then off to Wild birds for a small bag of Safflower seeds.  Black birds are supposed to hate Safflower. We'll see who likes it. ...

Tuesday

Image
There was a slow start to the day, and I just wasn't in a hurry to change that.  There was breakfast, a little TV.  Then a little sewing and a walk to retrieve the paper.  I chased the Starlings and hid some of the feeders till they "forgot" about black seeds.  I'm moving some feeders very close to the kitchen window wondering if this will discourage the Starlings. I'll let you know the results.  The move was made this morning after the Starlings were chased away.  The little birds were quite comfortable with the new place to eat later in the day.  We'll check on the Starlings tomorrow morning. I'm always trying to best the Starlings, but they usually best me. It's hard to declare a trues with me being the looser.  The calendar is empty for today so whatever happens, happens and here are some of the happenings. Burp sewing.  Bird seed filling and watching, Block walking, Neighbor visiting. Ornamental grass clipping. Seed collecting. I'm think...

Monday

A little mildewy but still making a statement in the garden.   Last night was a little crazy with a lot of wake ups.  I gave in at 5 to watch the daybreak.  Early breakfast and the day was off to a good start.  There was a little sewing and then it was off to Living Strong.  We had a great workout.  It was all about balance and stretching.  It was a challenge to say the least.  I think I need some remediation balance work before the next go around.  We did a lot of laughing because we all are about in the same place except the teacher.  She can bend like a pretzel and she is 84.  So we just try harder.  Sometimes we use that excuse word, cancer.  It never works.   Then there was a trip south to pick up the notorious pants that needed mending.  Th...

Sunday

Image
The flowers at the altar celebrated the 92 birthday of Robert Albright Schilling, our much loved and long time now retired minister of music.  One arrangement went to their home and another one was gifted to us by Rita, Bob's wife.  And Bob, we wish for you many more birthday celebrations.                                           Beautiful fall colors that make this a thrilling sight for us.  Another quiet Sunday just as it should be but isn't always that way.  What still seems a bit strange is our not getting to church for choir practice meaning getting a folder, finding the music and getting to ones seat ready for practice. That always took at least a nine o'clock start, or close to that.  When we were adoing hospitality time it was a leave home at 6:45 or so. Now when leaving home around 10 we have plenty of time to find our...

Saturday

Image
Another good start to the day with my yummy yogurt, almonds, blueberries and coffee and the TV.  But not for long.  It was back to the beloved sweat shop with burps.  That's the go to when the need to do something else comes along.  It was the last 10 of the next 100.  They will be in my closet until nearer Christmas.  Some of the burps are Christmas themed.  There was additional ripping, then folding and finally ironing where need.  The pipeline is filled again with additional work ready willing and able to become more burps. Starting on another 100 leads to the next 100 a total equaling 2500 burps.   I worked on a sign to advertise the No Kings event of the day.  Joining a big group even though it is outside is not going to happen.  But I had an idea up my sleeve. It's that germ thing and the energy thing that will keep me close to home.   Then another late morning in the garden after the warmup.  I notic...

Friday

Image
Another GOOD Friday.  What makes it good?  Great fall weather with a cool morning and then a little warmer afternoon.  Nothing sweaty for sure. And the day began with sewing and then ripping and then more sewing.  The number of burps inched up to 90 and may get to 100 before the day is over.  If it doesn't reach 100 that's OK also.  And it didn't although I rip ped up another sheet. Staying ahead!                                                        Still hanging in there being pretty. Then it was outside again.  First with the little clippers, then with the loppers and then finally with the hedge trimmers and rake.  The garden cart was filled three times filling two B Blues and the third load on the burn pile.  There is just a lot of stuff when there are so many garden pl...
